King George School, Saramsa Hosts Royal Durbar 2026 — A 2-Day Inter-School Literary Festival.
King George School, Saramsa, successfully organised Royal Durbar 2026, its flagship two-day literary festival, on 2nd and 3rd September 2026 at Denzong Hall, King George School, Saramsa. The festival brought together young learners from 7 schools for a celebration of literature, creativity, communication and the performing arts.
The event assumed special significance as King George School, Saramsa marks its 10th Anniversary this year. Royal Durbar was launched in 2022 as an inter-house literary competition with the objective of providing students with a platform to develop creativity, communication skills, confidence and critical thinking, while fostering an appreciation for language and literature. In a significant milestone in its journey, Royal Durbar 2026 was expanded into an inter-school festival for the first time, welcoming participation from schools beyond King George School, Saramsa.
The participating institutions were Delhi Public School, Gangtok; Tashi Namgyal Academy, Gangtok; Manjusri Public School, Temi Tarku; Saraswati Vidhya Niketan, Ranipool; Government Secondary School, Ahopul Kishan; PM Shri Government Junior High School, Adampool; and King George School, Saramsa. The participation of both private and government schools provided a diverse platform for interaction, collaboration and healthy competition among students.
The festival featured nine literary and performing arts disciplines — Flash Fiction Writing, Just a Minute (JAM), Mimicry, Mono Acting, Poem Paraphrasing, Slam Poetry, Speech, Stand-up Comedy and Storytelling. Students demonstrated considerable confidence, creativity, spontaneity and talent across the various events.

Royal Durbar is envisaged as more than a competitive platform. It seeks to encourage young learners to think critically, communicate effectively, express themselves confidently and appreciate diverse perspectives. Through literature and performance, the festival aims to nurture well-rounded individuals and foster a lifelong appreciation for creativity and learning.
The school conveyed its sincere appreciation to the Chief Guest, participating schools, principals, teachers, coordinators, judges, parents, students, and members of the teaching and non-teaching staff for their support and contribution towards making the inaugural inter-school edition of Royal Durbar a success.
