Today’s case:
USG guided FNAC from mesenteric lymph nodes with metastatic deposits from adenocarcinoma colon with signet ring like features from a case of 54 years old female who had previously been diagnosed with colorectal adenocarcinoma and treated for the same…
However, recurrence is due to incomplete resection of lymph nodes
Interestingly, for cases of carcinoma colon and re**um at least 12 lymph nodes should be examined…
To label a case signet ring cell carcinoma, more than 50% of the tumor should contain signet ring cells.
Signet ring cells are formed due to intracellular accumulation of mucin which displaces the nucleus periphery…
However, in mucinous carcinoma of colon there is extracellular pool of mucin where s strips of tumor cells float and mucin pool should be more than 50%
