XISS Ranchi, marked the 80th Independence Day with patriotism and pride as Director, Dr Joseph Marianus Kujur SJ hoisted the tricolour amid the National Anthem. In his address, Dr Kujur reflected on India's journey from poverty to power and from power to prosperity. He acknowledged India's achievements in democracy, nation-building, science and technology, space, digital transformation and economic growth while also urged the youth of the nation to build an inclusive, equitable and innovation-driven future.
The celebrations were organised by Marketing Management Programme students, under the guidance of Programme Head, Dr Bhabani Prasad Mahapatra and faculty members. Assistant Director, Dr Pradeep Kerketta SJ; Dean Academics, Dr Amar E Tigga; Finance Officer, Fr Ashok Kandulna SJ; Dr Richard Sibbernsen, along with Programme Heads, Dr Ratnesh Chaturvedi, Dr Anant Kumar, and Dr Kumar Mohit Spring, while faculty members, staff, and students were also in attendance.
Vibrant patriotic songs, dances and skits filled the campus with a powerful message, to honour the freedom we cherish, safeguard it, and carry forward the responsibility of building a better India. 26 students were awarded Institutional Scholarships worth Rs 7.60 lacs for the Fr Michael Van den Bogaert SJ, Fr Michael Albert Windey SJ, and Fr Louis Francken SJ Memorial Scholarships respectively, a testament honouring academic excellence and XISS values.

Xavier Institute of Social Service (XISS), Ranchi, and the Indian Council of Medical Research–National Institute of Tribal Health Research (ICMR-NITHR), Jabalpur, have signed a two-year MoU to undertake a multicentric study on healthcare gaps and challenges affecting Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Groups (PVTGs) in Jharkhand.
The study will focus on the Birhor, Asur, and Pahariya communities in Hazaribagh, Gumla, and Pakur respectively, with the aim of developing practical, evidence-based recommendations for more accessible and responsive public health systems.
The MoU was signed by Dr Joseph Marianus Kujur SJ, Director, XISS, and Dr Praveen Bharti, Director, ICMR-NITHR Jabalpur, in the presence of Dr Amar Tigga, Dean Academics, XISS and Dr Kalyan Brata Saha, Scientist-G and Principal Investigator along with Mr Abhishek Sharoff, Administrative Officer, NITHR; and Dr Sant K. Prasad; and Dr Uma Chatterjee from the Research & Planning Department, XISS.
This partnership brings together institutional expertise and field-based research to advance stronger, more inclusive healthcare for tribal communities.

XISS, Ranchi commemorated the Feast of St. Ignatius of Loyola on 30 July 2026, with a solemn celebration that brought together faculty, staff, students, and guests to honour the enduring legacy of the founder of the Society of Jesus.
The day centred on the theme, "Ad Majorem Dei Gloriam" (For the Greater Glory of God), reflecting the Ignatian call to live a life of faith, discernment, and service. The Eucharistic celebration was presided over by Dr Pradeep Kerketta SJ, Assistant Director, XISS, along with Fr Ashok Kandulna and Fr Nicholas Barla, SVD. The celebrations began with an entrance hymn, a Gloria dance, a Bible procession and cultural performances that reflected the values of faith, gratitude, service, and fellowship.
The day concluded with a joyful cake-cutting ceremony and community feast, reaffirming the institution's commitment to the Ignatian ideals of compassion, excellence, and service to society.

With this powerful message, Prof Pramod Pathak, Former Professor & Head, Department of Management Studies, IIT (ISM) Dhanbad, delivered an enriching Expert Talk on "Life Skills to Cope with Challenges of Professional Career", jointly organized by the Programmes of Marketing Management and Financial Management at Xavier Institute of Social Service (XISS), Ranchi on 29 June 2026.
The session encouraged students to view stress through the lens of mindset, cultivate resilience, and develop the confidence to navigate professional challenges with clarity and purpose. While acknowledging the growing role of Artificial Intelligence, Prof Pathak emphasized that technology should complement—not replace—critical thinking, sound judgment, and human creativity.
The engaging interaction left students with valuable insights into building the life skills essential for thriving in an ever-evolving professional world.
