Aman Soy Emerges as the Winner of ‘Pixel Spandan 2026’ Photography Competition
Celebrating the magic of the lens and the art of visual storytelling, Sarala Birla University (SBU), Ranchi, marked World Photography Day with a vibrant two-day workshop, seminar and photography competition—‘Pixel Spandan 2026’, organized by the Department of Journalism & Mass Communication in association with the Shutterbugs Club on August 19–20, 2026.

🎉 Heartiest congratulations to Aman Soy, a student of Journalism & Mass Communication, for securing the First Position and winning the ₹4,100 prize. Soumya Kujur secured the Second Position with ₹3,100, while Arpita Tigga won the Third Position with ₹2,100. Five consolation prizes were also awarded to encourage emerging photographic talents.

The competition invited students to explore three evocative themes—‘Nature’, ‘Tribal Culture’ and ‘Apni Ranchi’—through their unique visual perspectives. From the serenity of nature and the richness of tribal heritage to the everyday rhythms and distinctive identity of Ranchi, the young photographers transformed ordinary moments into compelling visual narratives. 📷🌳

The two-day celebration featured insightful technical sessions by renowned photographers Kuldeep Singh ‘Deepak’, Diwakar Prasad and Sanjay Bose, who shared their professional experiences and enriched students with practical insights into photography and visual storytelling.

The valedictory session was led by renowned New Delhi-based travel and astrophotographer, Sony Artisan and Sony India Photography Influencer Nimit Nigam. A Fine Arts-trained photographer, he conducts Sony Alpha masterclasses and workshops and has earned recognition on prestigious global platforms including National Geographic, Getty Images and Space.com.

Through an engaging session, Nimit Nigam introduced students to the nuances of street photography, composition, camera angles and visual storytelling, while inspiring them to look beyond the frame—to observe the world with greater sensitivity and discover the stories and emotions hidden within every image.
The event concluded with a prize distribution ceremony, celebrating creativity, participation and the emerging photographic talent of SBU students.

🌟 ‘Pixel Spandan 2026’ was more than a photography competition—it was a celebration of vision, imagination and the power of a single frame to tell a thousand stories.
Congratulations once again to all the winners and participants! May your lenses continue to capture not just images, but moments, emotions and stories that inspire. 📸✨

📸✨ Celebrating the Art of Seeing — Pixel Spandan 2026 ✨📸

On the occasion of World Photography Day, Sarala Birla University (SBU), Ranchi, is hosting the two-day photography extravaganza “Pixel Spandan 2026” on August 19–20, bringing together the worlds of creativity, visual storytelling, technology and expression.
Organised jointly by the Department of Journalism & Mass Communication and Shutterbugs Club, the event seeks to nurture in students a deeper appreciation of photography and visual communication while equipping them with practical and technical insights into the evolving world of images.

The inaugural ceremony at the G. D. Birla Auditorium unfolded with the ceremonial lighting of the lamp, followed by the University anthem, Ganesh Vandana, Saraswati Vandana, a captivating Shiva-Shakti presentation and a vibrant traditional tribal welcome dance—creating a beautiful confluence of knowledge, culture and creativity.

The Chief Guest, Hon’ble Rajya Sabha Member Dr. Pradeep Kumar Varma, described photography as an “extraordinary confluence of art, science and philosophy.” Drawing inspiration from the lives and legacies of Swami Vivekananda, Mahatma Gandhi and Bhagwan Birsa Munda, he highlighted photography and painting as powerful mediums through which ideas, emotions and human experiences transcend the limitations of words.

Welcoming the students, Prof. Ajay Kumar, Dean, Department of Journalism & Mass Communication, emphasised the transformative power of photography as a medium of communication and encouraged students to learn continuously, practise relentlessly and give wings to their creative imagination.

The event also featured insightful technical sessions by renowned photographers Kuldeep Singh “Deepak”, Diwakar Prasad and Sanjay Bose, who shared their experiences and perspectives with the students.

📷 Kuldeep Singh “Deepak” traced the fascinating journey of photography—from traditional cameras and film rolls to digital cameras, smartphones and today’s reel culture.

📷 Diwakar Prasad explored photography as the art of visual storytelling, reminding students that a compelling photograph can narrate an idea, emotion or moment more powerfully than countless words. He also shared practical insights into effective mobile photography.

📷 Sanjay Bose delved into the photographer’s mind, highlighting the importance of observation, imagination, perspective and the ability to discover extraordinary possibilities within ordinary scenes.

The programme was graced by Hon’ble Information Commissioner of Jharkhand Shri Anuj Kumar Sinha, Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor Prof. C. Jeganathan, Hon’ble Director General Prof. Gopal Pathak, and Registrar Prof. S. B. Dandin, who encouraged students to cultivate creativity, discipline, perseverance and a lifelong spirit of learning.

At SBU, photography is not merely about capturing a moment—it is about seeing beyond the obvious, discovering meaning in the ordinary and transforming a fleeting moment into a timeless story. 🌟
