It was a fruitful discussion with Ms. Sarika Agarwal (Managing Director of Food Safety Works) regarding the incorporation of practical-oriented food safety components in our UG B.Tech. Food Engineering and Technology syllabus.
Food Safety Works would like to explore further collaboration through an MOU with BIT Mesra, which will focus on joint research and assure internships linked to full-time employment for students of Food Engineering and Technology.
Students enjoyed her lecture and gained practical insights into Food safety in different verticals of food processing, i.e., raw material handling, processing, labelling, packaging, transportation, and new product development. Centre for Food Engineering and Technology, Department of Chemical Engineering, BIT Mesra welcomes Sarika Agarwal for her lecture entitled “Food Safety Standards: Prospects linked to Career Opportunities”.
Sarika Agarwal is the Founder and Principal Consultant at Food Safety Works, a leading food safety solutions company based out of Bangalore with offices in Mumbai and Delhi. She has close to 20 years of experience in the area of food safety management systems, audits, food regulatory, and global standards. She has helped some of the largest food factories and food service organizations in India implement Food Safety Management Systems like ISO22000, including the first FSSC22000 implementation at a food service organization in India. She is one of the only 7 Principal Consultants across the country recognized by Quality Council of India. She is also a certified trainer for PCQI course as required by FSMA in US. A food technologist by education, she is passionate about ensuring that the food that reaches the consumer is safe for consumption and devoid of any hazards. She was awarded the Entrepreneur of the Year by eMerge India in 2019 . Her team of close to 25 Food Technologists, Microbiologists and Nutritionists work on factory designs, standards implementation, consulting, auditing, new product development and training as well as provide regulatory advisory services to FBOs. She is a recipient eMerge award for Women Entrepreneur of 2019 and Goldman Sachs 10K Women Entrepreneur.
