Indian Institute of Information Technology Ranchi celebrated the 80th Independence Day with a flag-hoisting ceremony held at both campuses of the Institute. The ceremony was led by Prof. Rajeev Srivastava, Director, IIIT Ranchi, in the presence of members of the Institute community.

The celebrations began with the ceremonial hoisting of the National Flag, followed by the National Anthem. The occasion was marked by reflections on the significance of independence, the responsibilities that come with it, and the role of every generation in shaping the country’s future.

The Director addressed the gathering and shared his thoughts on the occasion, offering guidance and encouragement to the students and the Institute community.

The programme featured a series of student-led cultural and literary activities. The Saaz Music Club, Nrityarashi, Alfaaz and Abhinay presented musical, dance, literary and theatrical performances, adding a creative dimension to the celebrations.

The celebrations also included the prize distribution for the Play for India Event (organised between 12th - 14th August) , recognising students and employees who participated in various sporting competitions, including Futsal, Chess, Table Tennis, Volleyball and Carrom.

The celebration reflected IIIT Ranchi’s continued emphasis on education, innovation, creativity and responsible contribution, encouraging its students and community to play a meaningful role in India’s progress.

Indian Institute of Information Technology Ranchi actively participated in the Nasha Mukt Yuva (Drug-Free Youth) Campaign on Sunday, 2 August 2026, by joining the virtual programme featuring the address of the Hon'ble Prime Minister of India.

Faculty members, staff of the Institute and students attended the virtual address, which emphasized the importance of building a drug-free India through collective responsibility, awareness, and active participation of the youth. The Hon'ble Prime Minister highlighted the need for individuals, educational institutions, families, and communities to work together in preventing substance abuse and promoting a healthy, responsible lifestyle among young people.

The programme reflected IIIT Ranchi's commitment to supporting national initiatives aimed at creating awareness about the harmful effects of drug abuse and encouraging youth to make informed and positive life choices. The participation of the Institute's faculty and staff reaffirmed its continued efforts towards promoting social responsibility and contributing to nation-building through awareness and education.

The sessions provided a platform for meaningful discussions on emerging technologies, research trends, and the growing collaboration between academia and industry.

Indian Institute of Information Technology Ranchi organized a Cyber Security Awareness programme at the Government School in Malsiring, an adopted village under its Unnat Bharat Abhiyan (UBA) initiative.

The programme aimed to familiarize school students with safe internet practices, responsible use of social media, protection of personal information, and ways to identify and prevent cyber fraud. Faculty members also interacted with the students, addressing their queries and encouraging them to adopt safe digital habits from an early age.

The programme received an encouraging response, with students actively participating in discussions and sharing their experiences of using digital devices and the internet.

Appreciating the initiative, Prof. Rajeev Srivastava, Director, IIIT Ranchi, said that creating awareness about cyber security among young students is essential in today's digitally connected world. Indian Institute of Information Technology Ranchi organized a plantation drive under the nationwide campaign 'Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam' on its BSNL campus, with enthusiastic participation from the Director, faculty members, officers, and staff of the Institute.

The drive began with Prof. Rajeev Srivastava, Director, IIIT Ranchi, planting a sapling, following which faculty members, officers, and staff joined the initiative by planting saplings across different parts of the campus. The programme reflected the Institute's collective effort towards creating a greener and healthier environment.

Speaking on the occasion, Prof. Rajeev Srivastava said that protecting nature is a shared responsibility and a small initiatives like planting and caring for trees can make a meaningful difference in the years to come. He encouraged everyone to actively contribute towards environmental conservation in their daily lives.

The plantation drive was conducted as part of the national campaign that encourages every individual to plant a tree in the name of their mother, celebrating both motherhood and nature. Along with planting saplings, participants also pledged to nurture them and help maintain the greenery of the campus.

IIIT Ranchi regularly organizes activities that promote environmental awareness and encourage members of the institute to contribute towards a cleaner, greener, and more sustainable future.

On the occasion, Prof. Rajeev Srivastava emphasized the importance of awareness and collective responsibility in addressing the issue of drug abuse. He encouraged members of the institute community to contribute towards building a healthier and safer society. It was attended by Mr. M.S. The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from faculty members, staff, and students who came forward to contribute to this noble cause, highlighting the importance of voluntary blood donation in strengthening healthcare services and saving lives.

Appreciating the initiative, Prof. Srivastava commended the participants for their selfless contribution and emphasized that voluntary blood donation is a noble act of service to humanity.
