Five-Day Faculty Development Program cm Workshop on AI/ML β Day 1 Recap
From December 16 to 20, 2024 a comprehensive five-day Faculty Development Program cm workshop on AI/ML was held, organized by the Department of Computer Science and Engineering (CSE), the Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering (ECE), University Polytechnic, BIT Mesra. Dr. R.K. Chatterjee served as the coordinator of the FDP, with Dr. Sumana and Mr. Ramnish Sinha from the Department of ECE acting as co-coordinators.
Inauguration Ceremony : The program commenced with a vibrant inauguration ceremony at BIT Mesra. Distinguished guests included Prof. Biswas, Head of the CSE Department; Prof. Sanjay Kumar, Head of the ECE Department; and Prof. Vinay Sharma, Director of University Polytechnic. Each provided compelling inaugural addresses that set a motivational tone for the event.
Session 1: Fundamentals of AI and ML Prof. Biswas initiated the first session, focusing on the fundamental concepts of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML). He emphasized the necessity of understanding these core principles for deep comprehension in the field and discussed various machine learning algorithms, illustrating their practical applications and significance in addressing contemporary issues.
Session 2: Introduction to AI/ML Dr. R.K. Chatterjee, the FDP Coordinator, led the second session, which introduced participants to the expansive and evolving fields of AI and ML. He underlined their increasing impact across different sectors and stressed the importance of mastering the mathematical fundamentals essential for these technologies. Dr. Chatterjee also previewed the extensive topics scheduled to be covered throughout the workshop.
Sessions 3 and 4: Python for AI/ML Dr. Amritaljali, Assistant Professor in the CSE Department, conducted the third and fourth sessions centered around Python programming. Through practical demonstrations, she highlighted Python's capabilities and discussed its critical language features for AI/ML development, equipping participants with the necessary programming skills for AI/ML projects.
The first day of the FDP laid a comprehensive foundation, blending theoretical knowledge with practical skills essential for progressing in the AI/ML domain, and set the stage for the subsequent days of the FDP.
