The Dalai Lama Institute for Higher Education

The Department of Humanities, Surana College (Autonomous), Bengaluru, in collaboration with The Dalai Lama Institute for Higher Education (DLIHE), Bengaluru, organized an Initiative – Academic Student Visit on 20 August 2026.
A total of 77 students and faculty members participated in this enriching program. The visit featured an introduction to Tibet, interaction with monks, a visit to the institutional exhibition on Tibetan culture and heritage. The programme also provided opportunities for meaningful interaction, cultural learning and academic exchange.
The visit was a valuable experience in exploring knowledge, embracing heritage and building meaningful connections between the two institutions.

On 20th August 2026, the 17th Student Council organised a peaceful candlelight vigil in solemn remembrance of Pawo Lobga Rangzen La, honouring his selfless sacrifice for the cause of Tibet.

Students and members of the DLIHE community came together in silence, solidarity, and remembrance. Each candle lit was a symbol of our enduring love for Tibet, our respect for those who have sacrificed for our nation, and our unwavering hope for a future of freedom and dignity.

His sacrifice reminds us to remain united, preserve our identity, and carry forward the spirit of courage and resilience for generations to come.

May his sacrifice never be forgotten.
May his courage continue to inspire us.

The Bachelor of Arts department organised the institute's official Independence Day celebration. The event honoured eminent national leaders who sacrificed their lives for the country. The political science students paid tribute to the esteemed freedom fighters through speeches. The programme concluded with a sense of patriotism and hope for the homeland.

The 17th Student Council celebrated Independence Day on 15th August 2026 with joy, unity, and enthusiasm!

Various fun games were organised, bringing students and staff together for a day filled with laughter and memorable moments. The celebration concluded with cake being distributed among all departments and staff, spreading sweetness and togetherness across the campus.

The 17th Student Council organized the Inter-Department Essay Competition on 13th August 2026 at 2:30 PM. Around 100 students participated enthusiastically, with half writing their essays in English and the other half in Tibetan. The competition provided students with an opportunity to showcase their creativity, writing skills, and ideas.

Since the Bachelor of Arts department completed its end-of-semester examinations last month, it held an orientation session for all BA students for the 2026-2027 academic year on 5 August. The orientation aims to familiarise students with their coursework, emphasise the importance of attendance, monitor their daily performance in classes, introduce them to their dedicated faculty members, prepare them for semester examinations, and foster collaboration and camaraderie within the department.
The HoD and faculty members seek positive, active cooperation from the students.

The 17th Student Council successfully organized Fresher's Night 2026 on 1st August 2026 at Tiger Hall to warmly welcome the new batch of students. The event featured an exciting Ramp Walk, where freshers confidently showcased their talents and personalities.

The evening also included the prize distribution ceremony for the Basketball and Badminton tournaments, recognizing the winners for their outstanding performances. The celebration concluded with cultural performances and joyful interactions, making the event a memorable and successful occasion for everyone.

The On-Campus Student Job Interview for the MiniMart Store Manager position was successfully conducted on 28th and 30th July 2026.

The interview panel comprised the faculty members Mr. Phuntsok Gyatso, Ms. Karma Choeying, Mr. Samten Dorji (Student Council Vice President), and Mr. Dawa Tashi (Student Council Accountant).
