Workshop on “Designing and Detailing of Structures” was organized by the Department of Civil Engineering in association with RIT ICI Student Chapter on 31st August 2023 at Data Science Laboratory from 09.30 AM to 4.00 PM. The Resource person for this workshop was Dr. A. Rajasekar Assistant Professor (Selection Grade), Department of Civil Engineering, Thiagarajar College of Engineering, Madurai.

The RIT IGBC Student Chapter in association with Department of Civil Engineering organized a Drawing Competition on “Green Building Concept & Sustainable Infrastructure” on 20th April 2023. The objective of this competition was to create awareness about the concept of green buildings and sustainable infrastructure for I, II & III year Civil Engineering students. Student drawings were evaluated based on their theme, composition, creativity, neatness and colour scheme. In the event around 14 students participated and the top three winners were facilitated with appreciation certificates. Mr.M.Manikanda Balaji and Mr.K.Logeshkanna of III Civil were the student coordinators. Mrs.A.Leema Margret, AP/Civil and Mrs.R.Kalaimani, AP/Civil were the faculty coordinators.

The RIT IGBC Student Chapter in association with Department of Civil Engineering organized a Virtual Knowledge Sharing Session on “Integrating Geo-spatial and ML Techniques in Irrigation & Water Resources Engineering” on 6th April 2023 via Google meet. Dr.Surendar Natarajan, Assistant Professor, Department of Civil Engineering, SSN College of Engineering, Kalavakkam, Chennai was the Resource person for this session. Around 24 participants from III, IV Students of Civil attended this expert lecture. Mr.J.Suresh Anand, III Civil and Mr.S.V.Muthu sundareesvar IV Civil was the student coordinators. Mrs.A.Leema Margret, AP/Civil was the faculty coordinator.

Department of Civil Engineering, in association with RIT- Institution’s Innovation Council
(RIT-IIC), organized a National level workshop on “AN OVERVIEW OF PATENTS &
PROCEDURE FOR PROTECTION” on 20.01.2023. Mrs. Suganya Jayavelu, Patent Analyst,
Puthran & Associates, Chennai, was a resource for this event. Around 100 Participants
(Research Scholars, Faculty, and Students) from all over the state attended this workshop.

Kalaimani, Assistant Professor, and Mrs. A. Leema Margret, Assistant Professor, Civil

Department of Civil Engineering, in association with the IGBC Student Chapter organized a Expert Lecture on “A CAREER IN SUSTAINABLE BUILDING INDUSTRY” on 09.03.2023. P.Karthick Raja, Consulting Engineer, Conserve Consultants Pvt. Ltd. Chennai was the resource person for the event. Around 50 Participants – II & III-year Civil Engineering Students attended this lecture. Faculty coordinators are Mrs.C.Subha AP(SG)/Civil & Mrs.R.Kalaimani AP/Civil.

Department of Civil Engineering, in association with the RIT Structa in association with Training & Placement Cell, organized a Guest Lecture on “Ready Mix Concrete and Good Construction Practices & its Importance” on 03.03.2023. Mr. R. RamaChandran, Deputy General Manager, Ready Mix concrete Division, The Ramco Cements Limited, Chennai was the resource person for the event. Around 31 Participants – III & IV-year Civil Engineering Students attended this guest lecture. Faculty coordinators are Ms.Uthra KB,TPO, Dr.M.Lakshamanan, AP(SG)/Mech, Mr.T.Chockalingam AP(SG)/Civil, Mrs.R.Kalaimani AP/Civil & Mr.A.Vigneshwar, AP(SG)/EEE.

Department of Civil Engineering, in association with the RIT ICI Students chapter, organized a Workshop on “Simulation & Design of Building Using STAAD Pro” on 24.02.2023. Mr. R. Muruganatham, Assistant Professor, Civil Engineering Department, Ramco Institute of Technology, Rajapalayam, was the resource person for the event. Around 47 Participants – II & III-year Civil Engineering Students of various Polytechnics Colleges attended this workshop. Faculty coordinators are Mrs. C. Subha, Assistant Professor (Senior Grade), Mrs. R. Kalaimani, Assistant Professor, and Mr. V. Ragavan, Assistant Professor, Civil Engineering, RIT.

A one day Workshop on “Mapping using Total station & GPS” was organized by the Department of Civil Engineering in association with RIT Structa on 10.02.2023. First, Second and Third-year civil engineering diploma students of 95 numbers and 9 faculty members from various Polytechnic Colleges of Tamilnadu participated, gained field experience on Total station & GPS and gathered knowledge about emerging technologies in Surveying. The students provided great feedback and discussed their workshop learnings. Dr. M.S. Dharmar, Head of the Department, Civil Engineering and Mr.A.Manickamamallan, Assistant Professor, Civil Engineering were the resource persons for this workshop. The practical field experience of using total station and EDM was given by Mr.G.Karthikeyan, AP(SG)/Civil, Mr.A.Manicka Mamallan, AP/Civil, Mrs.D.Darling Helen Lydia, AP/Civil and Mr.A.Arumugaganesh, Surveying Lab Technician. Mrs.A.Leema Margret, AP/Civil and Mr.T.Chockalingam, AP(SG)/Civil coordinated the entire workshop.
