Gun = Crew-Served / Area Weapon
Typically operated by a crew and designed to deliver greater firepower over an area or at longer ranges.

In simple military terms:

“A rifle fights with the soldier; a gun fights for the unit.”

Army in Internal Security: Aid to Civil Authority vs AFSPA

Under Aid to Civil Authority, the Army can be called in by the civil administration for limited and specific situations, with powers restricted to the task and duration required.

Under AFSPA, in a notified disturbed area, Army personnel receive enhanced statutory powers to operate for a prolonged period, subject to the Act and government notification.

In short: Aid to Civil Authority = limited assistance; AFSPA = extended powers in a disturbed area.
