Department of English, Sitaram Mahato Memorial College

The students and faculty members of the department of English wholeheartedly participated on the celebration of birth anniversary of Late Sitaram Mahato and college foundation Day on 1 April 2026.

On behalf of the department of English, we congratulate Soumitra Kumar Mahato for scoring the highest marks from the department of English in the aggregate of six semesters in 2025 batch. We wish him the very best of luck for his future endeavours.

An excursion cm reunion was organised jointly by the Department of English and the Department of Anthropology from 10 March 2026 to 12 March 2026 at Giridih, Madhuban, Usri Falls and Asansol. About 21 students (both past and present) and three teachers participated in this excursion and gathered rich experience about the folk culture of Jharkhand and the marvels of Jain architecture in Madhuban. 

A Departmental Seminar was organised by the Department of English, Sitaram Mahato Memorial College on 3rd December 2025 at the Audio Visual Room of the college as a part of the Internal Assessment of Semester 1,3,5.

The students of all three semesters paresented their research papers on their selected topic and submitted their assignments in the seminar. The faculty members of the Department remained present throughout the event to evaluate and encourage the students.

A peer teaching initiative was undertaken by the Department of English, Sitaram Mahato Memorial College on 3rd May 2025 from 10:00AM onwards.Smt Moushumi Mahato, an ex student of the department and a scholar at Sidho Kanho Birsha University conducted a class on Romantic Literature for the Students of Semester 6 and 4.

The students of the Department of English Anwesha Mahato, Supriya Mahato, Moushumi Mahato, Anita Hembram, Jishu Sarengi were felicitated for winning positions in various competitions during the Students Week 2025 on 3rd April 2025 in the Annual Prize Distribution Ceremony on the occasion of College Foundation Day and Birth Anniversary celebrations of Late Sitaram Mahato.

Department of English topper 2024 Mousumi Mahato was felicitated on 3rd April 2025 in the Annual Prize Distribution Ceremony on the occasion of College Foundation Day and Birth Anniversary celebrations of Late Sitaram Mahato.

Department of English felicitated for jointly winning Second position in Wall Magazine competition 2024 during the Annual Prize Distribution Ceremony held on 3rd April 2025.

Department of English felicitated with trophy for winning third position in Inter Departmental Choudal Making competition 2025.

The students of all three semesters of the English department, united to celebrate Basanta Utsav on 12 March 2025 at the college open stage.
