"Six years ago in Singapore I gave a taxi driver a business card to take me to a particular address.*

*At the last point he circled round the building. His meter read 11$, but he took only 10.
I said Henry, your meter reads 11$ how come you are taking only 10.*
*He said Sir, I am a taxi driver, I am supposed to be bringing you straight to the destination. Since I did not know the last spot, I had to circle around the building. Had I brought you straight here, the meter would have read 10$.*

*Professionalism:*
*It’s NOT the job you DO,*
*It’s HOW you DO the job.”*

All over the world, including India, many people might know about Odisha as a small state in East India, but the name of Puri certainly has a high recall value across the world for being the land of Lord Jagannath which is famous for its annual Ratha Yatra. Jagannath Puri being one of the four dhams sees millions of devotees visiting the Jagannath temple throughout the year seeking the blessings of Lord Jagannath. The historic Jagannath temple (Shrimandira) at Puri was built in the year 1078. The following nine incredible facts about the temple do not have a logical explanation.

-> The flag atop the temple has been observed to flap in the opposite direction of the breeze.

-> Irrespective of where you stand in Puri, it seems to you that the Sudarshana Chakra on top of the temple is always facing you.

-> Usually in coastal areas during the day-time, the breeze blows from the sea towards the land and during evening hours it blows from the land towards the sea. But in the case of Puri it is the reverse.

-> No birds fly above the Jagannath temple in Puri.

-> The shadow of the main dome of Jagannath temple is not visible, whatever be the time of day. Maybe an architectural feat or the Lord’s desire.

-> The food cooked inside the temple everyday will not go waste.

-> After entering the temple from Singha dwara’s entrance, after the first step you cannot hear any sound produced by the ocean. But, when you exit it can be clearly heard. This can be noticed clearly during evening. There is no scientific explanation for this. Legend has it that Subhadra Mayi, the sister of the two Lords wished peace and serenity within the temple abode and hence it was made to come about that way.

-> The Ratha Yatra at Puri was initially performed with two sets of chariots (3 plus 3). As there was a river flowing in between Shrimandira and Gundicha (Mausi maa) temple, the first set of chariots were used to transport the Deities till the river, and then the Deities had to cross the river in three wooden boats and then board the other set of chariots to travel till the Gundicha (Mausi maa) temple.

-> Every year there is a place just ahead of the Gundicha temple where the procession comes to a stop by itself. This is a mystery. The temple doors are closed to the public after 6 P.M. and in spite of elaborate planning, the proceedings are delayed in every Yatra. Thereby this delay gives an opportunity for the thousands of devotees to have darshan of the Deities at a time which otherwise would not have been possible in the precincts of the temple. Probably it is the Lord’s way of conveying that all mortals are alike in His eyes.

If you are fond of cooler temperatures, Snows and mountains, Rohtang Pass HAS to be on your list! There are multiple reasons for it.

First and foremost, Rohtang Pass is one of the very few places in India where you will find snow throughout the year – if you love skiing, you cannot miss this place.

However, do check your calendars properly as this place is closed in the winter months for nearly six months. The season starts from April-May and runs until October, after which this place gets lots of snow and the place is closed. Afterall, this is 13,000 feet above sea level!

Pencil: I’m sorry.

Eraser: For what?

Pencil: I’m sorry, you get hurt because of me. Whenever I make a mistake, you’re always there to erase it. But as you make my mistakes vanish, you lose a part of yourself and get smaller and smaller each time.

Eraser: That’s true, but I don’t really mind. You see, I was made to do this, I was made to help you whenever you do something wrong, even though one day I know I’ll be gone. I’m actually happy with my job. So please, stop worrying, I will not be happy if I see you sad.

Reflection:

“Our Parents are just like the eraser, and we are the pencil. They’re always there for their children, cleaning up their mistakes. Sometimes along the way they get hurt and become smaller (older and eventually pass on).

Moral:

Take care of your Parents, treat them with kindness and most importantly love them.”

Life is a gift

There was a blind girl who hated herself just because she was blind. She hated everyone, except her loving boyfriend. He was always there for her. She said that if she could only see the world, she would marry her boyfriend.

One day, someone donated a pair of eyes to her and then she could see everything, including her boyfriend. Her boyfriend asked her, “now that you can see the world, will you marry me?”

The girl was shocked when she saw that her boyfriend was blind too, and refused to marry him. The boy walked away, and later he wrote a letter to her saying:

“Just take care of my eyes dear.”

This is how most of human brains behave after a change in status. Only few remember what life was before, and who’s always been there even in the most painful situations.

In a world filled with hatred, there are very few people who truly care for fellow beings! Always keep them happy.

Moral of the short story:

Life is a gift – Live it, Enjoy it, Celebrate it, and Fulfill it.

A 100 year old grand old man saw his grandson having a heated discussion with his wife. He asked his grandson, “Why do you raise your voice when you are angry with your wife?”

Grandson: That is because I lose patience and that is why I raise my voice.

Grandpa: But, your wife is near to you only. She can hear you even when you say the same sentence in a calm manner. Why do you have to raise your voice?

Grandson: Because when I raise my voice, my voice is heard and I also let out the steam by raising my voice.

Grandpa: That is not the exact reason my dear grandson. The reason is this. When you are angry with your wife, your heart moves away from her heart. So even when both of you are physically close to each other, you feel that you are far away from one another and hence raise your voice.

Grandson: If that is the reason for raising the voice, what do we do when we are in love?

Grandpa: When two people are in love, their hearts are close to each other. Even if you whisper softly, you both can hear very clearly. At such times one can communicate with their loved ones even through the language of silence.

Don’t judge people before you truly know them.

A 24 year old boy seeing out from the train’s window shouted…

“Dad, look the trees are going behind!”

Dad smiled and a young couple sitting nearby, looked at the 24 year old’s childish behavior with pity, suddenly he again exclaimed.

“Dad, look the clouds are running with us!”

The couple could not resist and said to the old man.

“Why don’t you take your son to a good doctor?”

The old man smiled and said…

“I did and we are just coming from the hospital, my son was blind from birth, he just got his eyes today.”

Moral of the short story:

Every single person on the planet has a story. Don’t judge people before you truly know them.

Life is short, and it is up to you to make it sweet.

It was the coldest winter ever. Many animals died because of the cold. The porcupines, realizing the situation, decided to group together to keep warm. This way they covered & protected themselves; but the quills of each one wounded their closest companions. After a while, they decided to distance themselves one from the other and they began to die, alone & frozen. So they had to make a choice: either accept the quills of their companions or disappear from the Earth. Wisely, they decided to go back to being together. They learned to live with the little wounds caused by the close relationship with their companions in order to receive the heat that came from the others. This way they were able to survive.

The best relationship is not the one that brings together perfect people, but when each individual learns to live with the imperfections of others & can admire the other person’s good qualities.

Moral of the short story:

Life is short, and it is up to you to make it sweet.
