Kunna Dash, Puri City Ambassador, hailing from the Puri district in Odisha,India . He began his journey in the hospitality industry through his father's hotel business(Santana Group). His interactions with Japanese guests inspired him to learn the Japanese language. Over time, he settled in Japan, where he has lived for more than three decades. During this time, he founded the India-Japan Friendship Center in 2006 , Japan, a key initiative that has helped numerous Indians, including politicians, in fostering cultural, educational, tourism, and trade ties between the two countries. The Center has received active support from both the Indian and Japanese governments, various organizations, and local communities from both Japan and India, further strengthening the bond and cooperation between the two nations.
In 2004, he established Chandra Sekhar Academy in Puri, a school dedicated to teaching the CBSE curriculum from LKG to +2 Science. This school was the first in Odisha to introduce Japanese language education and culture. To further promote opportunities for Indian students in Japan, the academy introduced a specialized two-year program after graduation. This course is designed to teach Japanese language and culture, along with the NIELIT A Level IT course under the Ministry of Electronics & Information Technology, Government of India,
providing students with essential skills for working in Japan. By completing this program, students not only enhance their employability but also open doors to various career opportunities in Japan and in Japanese companies in India, significantly reducing the issue of unemployment in the region.
In Kunna Dash's opinion, if students learn the Japanese language and culture, they will have more opportunities to work in Japan. He believes that this initiative is a significant step that other educational institutions across the country should also consider adopting. Kunna Dash aims to implement this program in various parts of India, encouraging collaboration not just with the India-Japan Friendship Center but directly with him.
