This one is for the archives. Prajwal spontaneously decided to showcase the work they’ve built over the months and within minutes they’d built their own stall, replete with products and prices and decorated with art work. They worked as a team to decide pricing , made 50 rupees that they plan to pay toward our weekly meal plan, marketed their products to the rest of the community and appreciated the hard work of business. All the while making a playful idea into reality. It’s for days like these that we exist! “A paradox of play is that it is serious yet not serious, real yet not real. In play one enters a realm that is physically located in the real world, makes use of props in the real world, is often about the real world, is said by the players to be real, and yet in some way is mentally removed from the real world.”- Peter Gray.

If you walk in on a typical day at our Centre, you’ll find us engaged in a wide variety of learning pursuits. Aditya (6) is now making his own animation project on Scratch, while Rounak (17) is building an art making bot in preparation for our project week next week. We strive to sustain an environment that is conducive to learning and inspires our community to make intentional life choices. Contact or or DM us if you’d like your child to benefit from a space like ours.

This story reiterates our faith in the power of a child directing their own learning. Ganesh, in grade 6, figured out that he could light more than one bulb by connecting them in series or parallel, by building upon basic instructions on light circuits. Here at the Sunrise Community Centre, we explore project based learning and facilitate our children to be the flag bearers Of their own learning journey! Do give us a visit if you’re in Pune or elsewhere. @ Pune, Maharashtra

Day 2 of our start making! Project week. We divvied ourselves up into mixed age group teams and collaborated to build torches and paint with light. The stuff we learned is a long list among experimenting with LEDs, basic circuitry, long exposure photography, effective teamwork, resilience, patience and lots of fun. Today we will go wild with mire colors and more creative paintings. Stay tuned! And oh... if you think your child will benefit from life changing experiences such as these, come visit us at the Sunrise Community Centre, Vadgaonsheri. We are a community of keen and empathetic learners! @ Sunrise Community Centre

These little ones completed almost an entire set of scrabble tiles with some great word usage. They enhanced their vocabulary and helped each other in building the board. Their English learning curve is steep. At the Sunrise Community Centre, we equip kids with the tools of the culture and help them learn from it. DM for details

After over 15 hours, 2,500 pieces , a few heartbreaks and loads of fun and excitement, these two finally completed the Mack Anthem truck and trailer assembly. We’ll be following up with a demo timelapse and reflections from these two, on what they learned. When we give our children an opportunity to learn something they enjoy doing themselves, they’ll reach for the skies!
