ATI Foundation's 6th Anniversary Celebration!

Drama and Life Skills Workshop by Dr. Swaroop Sampat.

The first day of this workshop was well received by all the participants. They have explored a variety of methods, understood the approach and more importantly realized the importance of details, aesthetics, creativity and critical thinking.

On the occasion of the 6th anniversary of ATI Foundation we are blessed to have incredible Dr. Swaroop Sampat to conduct a workshop on Drama and Life Skills. Her wisdom and experience will surely enlighten us in many ways.

We have an amazing group of participants coming from different cities of India and they will take back a lot of learnings to implement in their worn work.

On the occasion of the 6th anniversary of ATI Foundation we thank each and everyone who helped us build the momentum to spread awareness and education of applied theatre in India 🎭

Council Call Update

Applied Theatre is much bigger than theatre workshops.

When we talk about the scope of Applied Theatre, we often think about schools, NGOs and community projects. But the field is expanding rapidly.

Applied Theatre can work across:
Education — teacher development, student engagement, inclusion, critical thinking and classroom facilitation.

Corporate & Organizational Development — leadership, communication, collaboration, conflict, change and team development.

Social Development — gender, health, livelihoods, identity, community dialogue and social change.

Healthcare & Wellbeing — empathy, patient communication, caregiver experiences, mental wellbeing and human connection.

And increasingly, there are opportunities in technology, climate action, public policy, tourism, heritage, ageing, migration and participatory research.

But there is one important distinction:
Using theatre is not automatically Applied Theatre.

The real question is not “What theatre activity can I do?”

It is:
What problem are we addressing?
Who are we working with?
Why does theatre belong in this context?
What change are we hoping to create?

So, don't ask:
“Where can I use theatre?”
Ask:
“What change do I want to contribute to, and where can Applied Theatre create value?”

That is where the real scope begins.

A New Chapter Begins! 🌱

15th August is special for us at ATI Foundation.

Every year on this day, we welcome a new cohort into our Diploma in Applied Theatre. And today, we begin Batch 5! 🎉

What makes this year even more exciting is the diversity of our 16 learners, coming together from across India and beyond.

Different cities. Different professions. Different life experiences.
But one shared curiosity:
“What can theatre do beyond the stage?”

Over the next six months, this cohort will explore how theatre can become a powerful tool for education, social change, personal transformation and organisational learning.

For us, starting a new batch is more than beginning a course. It is a yearly ritual. A moment when new questions enter the ATI community, new friendships begin, new practitioners emerge and the Applied Theatre movement in India grows a little bigger. ❤️

Your questions, experiments, failures, discoveries and stories are now part of our story.

And to everyone watching from the outside,

What happens when a group becomes a community? 🎭

Today’s Applied Theatre Council Call explored “Applied Theatre & Community Building” and it left us with some important questions.

We explored how a community is not created simply by bringing people together. It grows through trust, connection, dialogue, participation, shared purpose and belonging.

Through theatre-based activities and small-group challenges, our participants explored what it takes to:

🎭 Move from a group to a community
🤝 Create trust and meaningful connections
💬 Make space for different voices
🌱 Encourage participation and agency
🔄 Move from facilitator-led spaces towards community ownership

One question that stayed with us:

“If you stopped facilitating, would your community continue?”

Perhaps that is one of the real tests of community building.

Applied Theatre is not just about creating activities with people. It is about creating spaces where people can listen, imagine, question, connect and create together.

Thank you to everyone who participated, experimented and contributed to today’s conversation.

Theatre can bring people into a room.
Community is what happens when they begin to belong.

Diploma in Applied Theatre - Batch 5 (2026-27)

Today, a new group of curious minds stepped into the world of Applied Theatre. And honestly, what a beautiful beginning it was!

✨ New faces. New questions. New stories. New possibilities.

Today wasn’t just the start of another batch of the Diploma in Applied Theatre, it was the beginning of a journey where theatre moves beyond the stage and enters classrooms, communities, organisations, relationships and real life. 🌱

Over the coming months, these wonderful learners will explore, experiment, play, question, create, fail, discover, collaborate and most importantly, learn by doing.

Some may come as theatre practitioners.
Some as educators.
Some as trainers.
Some as social change practitioners.
And some simply because they believe something different is possible.

But they all share one thing:
The courage to explore. ❤️

Here’s to new beginnings, new friendships, crazy ideas, uncomfortable questions, unforgettable theatre moments and a whole lot of learning! 🎭🔥

𝗔𝗻𝗼𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿 𝗟𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗻 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗙𝘂𝗻 𝗖𝗮𝗽𝗮𝗰𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗕𝘂𝗶𝗹𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗴𝗿𝗮𝗺𝗺𝗲 begins at 𝗗𝗲𝗲𝗽 𝗚𝗿𝗶𝗵𝗮 𝗔𝗰𝗮𝗱𝗲𝗺𝘆!
Our first 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗺𝘂𝗻𝗶𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗦𝗸𝗶𝗹𝗹𝘀 session with 𝗚𝗿𝗮𝗱𝗲 𝟯 & 𝟰 students was filled with 𝗲𝗻𝗲𝗿𝗴𝘆, 𝗹𝗮𝘂𝗴𝗵𝘁𝗲𝗿, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗺𝗲𝗮𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴𝗳𝘂𝗹 𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 through 𝗔𝗽𝗽𝗹𝗶𝗲𝗱 𝗧𝗵𝗲𝗮𝘁𝗿𝗲.
From 𝗵𝗲𝘀𝗶𝘁𝗮𝗻𝘁 𝗯𝗲𝗴𝗶𝗻𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴𝘀 to 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝗳𝗶𝗱𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗽𝗮𝗿𝘁𝗶𝗰𝗶𝗽𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻, students explored communication through interactive activities like 𝗛𝘂𝗺𝗮𝗻 𝗔𝗹𝗽𝗵𝗮𝗯𝗲𝘁, 𝗧𝗲𝗮𝗺 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗺𝘂𝗻𝗶𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗖𝗵𝗮𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗻𝗴𝗲, and 𝗘𝗺𝗼𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗘𝘅𝗽𝗿𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻.
Through 𝗲𝘅𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗮𝗹 𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴, they discovered the power of 𝘃𝗲𝗿𝗯𝗮𝗹 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗻𝗼𝗻-𝘃𝗲𝗿𝗯𝗮𝗹 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗺𝘂𝗻𝗶𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻, 𝘁𝗲𝗮𝗺𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸, 𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗹𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴, 𝗰𝗼𝗼𝗿𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻, and 𝘀𝗲𝗹𝗳-𝗲𝘅𝗽𝗿𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻.
