Abstract
“Modern Indian thought finds itself in a historical context created by Europe… Even in its self-representation and self-assertion, it speaks to a large extent in a European (Western) idiom… The power of Indian tradition has not exhausted itself in its self-representation and self-interpretation… The dialogic situation is still open.”
These lines of W. HALBFASS from the epilogue to his book “India and Europe” have prompted this presentation which is aimed at creating a background for a dialogue with the West in Indian idiom. Some of the points to be discussed include relation between science and religion and counter-normative narratives in the ancient literature.
