Diabetes series
We saw how insulin resistance and high insulin levels can be an early marker for diabetes. But what begins this process in the first place?
Sudden spikes of glucose: All carbohydrates are broken down into glucose. But complex carbs are broken down slowly with sustained glucose release and simple carbs quickly spike and lower the blood glucose levels. Repeatitive spikes above normal over a period of time can lead to insulin resistance.
Lack of exercise or movement. We need to move so muscles can use the glucose and burn it up. In the absence of physical activity, the cells become resistant to insulin.
Stress (physical/ mental/ emotional) can release adrenaline or cortisol. This is short term is very useful to tide over stress but in long term can cause insulin resistance
Weight gain and insulin resistance is like chicken and egg. They feed on each other. Reducing weight can drastically reduce insulin resistance.

Diabetes series
Glucose is the primary energy source of our body. Yes it is our friend and not foe! Carbohydrates are broken down to glucose which is then quickly shunted into the cells for producing energy.
Insulin is the hormone that allows the glucose gates to be opened for the cells.
The primary cause for Type 2 diabetes is the resistance of the insulin receptors. This means, in the beginning it requires more insulin to open the gates and at the later stages there is insufficient clearing of glucose from the blood.
Measuring insulin resistance (fasting insulin levels, HOMA-IR) can give us an early sign towards impending diabetes.
Reversing diabetes is possible and doable through an integrative approach. You don't have to wait till you actually get diabetes to do this.

Hugs can covey a 1000 words.
As a society we have s*xualized and ostracised hugging especially with the opposite s*x. Touch is a basic necessity for humans. Studies have shown that lack of human connection can cause mental health issues.
A long hug that lasts more than 20 seconds can be very healing. It can calm the nervous system and release suppressed emotions. It releases oxytocin and serotonin both of which elevates the mood. Try this on a gloomy day and you will feel the difference.
Lack of touch or hugs can also create disharmony in marriages. It festers resentment. Children need constant hugs that makes them feel accepted, loved and secure. Having pets is therapeutic because of the constant physical comfort they offer.
I can go on and on about hugs but the bottom line is get one today ❤️❤️❤️❤️
