BCS comes from the UK, but its Business Analysis certifications are internationally recognised and followed by professionals across global markets.

One reason BCS is relevant beyond the UK is its alignment with SFIAplus, helping Business Analysts develop their skills progressively from Foundation to Practitioner and higher levels.

What makes BCS particularly useful is its structured and practical approach to Business Analysis.

The Foundation curriculum covers areas such as stakeholder analysis, investigative techniques, business cases, requirements management and business improvement giving professionals a framework for approaching BA work from problem understanding through to change.

This can be valuable even if you are based in India, UAE, Europe or elsewhere but work with UK or European clients.

BCS should therefore not be viewed simply as:

“I need this certification because I want a UK job.”

A better way to look at it is:

“I want a globally relevant framework for how Business Analysis is practised.”

We have also observed that many BA interviews, particularly for international roles, assess similar areas such as stakeholder management, requirements engineering, process improvement, investigation techniques and real project scenarios.

The payment shows “Successful.” The money has been deducted from the customer. But the merchant still hasn’t received it. As a Business Analyst, where would you start?

This is the kind of scenario where checking only the payment status is not enough.

A payment can pass through multiple stages and systems before the merchant actually receives the money. So the first step would be to understand the complete transaction flow and identify exactly where the process has broken.

I would start by checking whether the transaction was only authorised or successfully captured, whether the gateway received confirmation, whether the transaction moved into settlement, and whether there was any reconciliation mismatch or delay.

Then I would trace the transaction using details such as the Transaction ID, Payment Reference, Timestamp and Merchant ID and compare the records across the systems involved.

Depending on where the issue appears, I may also need to work with payment operations, finance or reconciliation teams, banking teams, gateway providers and technical teams.

The key point is this:

“Payment successful” does not always mean “merchant successfully settled.”

Authorisation, capture, clearing and settlement are different stages of the payment lifecycle.

As a BA, the objective is to understand:

Where did the transaction stop? Which system is showing the wrong status? What business rule should have triggered next? And how can the issue be prevented from happening again?

Scenario-based questions like this are especially likely in interviews for Banking, FinTech and Payments-focused roles at organisations such as JPMorganChase, Barclays, HSBC, Accenture and similar financial-services companies.
