Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam, the 11th President of India, also known as 'Missile Man’, believed in the power of youth of the nation. He used to say, “Ignited Minds of the youth is the most powerful resource above the earth, on the earth and below the earth.”

He always wished to be remembered as a TEACHER! At the end of most of his lectures, he would administer an oath to the youth and inspired them to be remembered as someone UNIQUE.

This July 27, 2017, as we mark the second anniversary of Dr. Kalam’s passage, we wish to reignite and enliven that spirit of inspiring the youth by taking his famous 10 point oath. We, the members at Kalam Centre, aim to collect 2,70,717 oaths by 27th July 2017 through this online campaign the results of which will be announced during the 2nd Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam Memorial International Youth Conclave for Creating Livable Planet Earth 2017 in Lucknow.

Dr Kalam has always encouraged creating educational opportunities for the underprivileged children beyond boundaries, as he strongly believed that education is the single-most powerful tool that could palliate poverty. On 24th April 2017, a reading and creative drawing session was conducted under the guidance of the Mentors and few Pre Primary teachers for the children of in-house maids and peons of Vikhe Patil Memorial School. The session started by 8:30 am. In the first half of the session the teachers narrated few interesting stories which were followed by self reading session by the children. While reading, the teachers helped them in comprehending the meaning of difficult words. The children were awestricken by the colourful and bright story books with ample amount of pictures to brighten up each scene of the story. A short break from 10:00 to 10:30 am was given to the children. After the break the children were engaged with creative drawing session. The Pre Primary teachers introduced new techniques of drawing like Crayon Twisting and Ear-Bud painting. Innocence tinctures everything with brightest hues, the children added on their touch to the paintings by suggesting their choice of colours. The children were enthralled by the activities. The session got over by 12:30pm, wherein every child had a memory of Dr Kalam taken away through the book marks that they had created.

The Kalam Library was inaugurated at Vikhe Patil Memorial School, Lohegaon, as a part of the Kalam Project. A Library that's a collection of books by Dr. Kalam and books that uphold the values dear to Dr. Kalam was inaugurated by Dr. Ashok Vikhe Patil on Saturday 11th March at Vikhe Patil Memorial School, Lohegaon. This event was special because Dr. Ashok Vikhe Patil is the Founder Trustee of the Kalam Project, New Delhi. The inauguration ceremony was witnessed by the students and teachers of Zilla Parishad School from Lohegaon and Wagholi.
The Kalam Library is the first stepping stone of The Kalam Project. The Kalam Project is being run under the leadership of Mr. Srijan Pal Singh, former Aide, Advisor and Co-author of three books with Dr. Kalam. The Kalam Library Project is one of the unfulfilled dreams of Dr. Kalam, which is based on the philosophy of Dr. Kalam, that every youth of the nation should have access to library as a matter of right for every child.
Fifteen students of grade 8th from Vikhe Patil Memorial School, Lohegaon have been chosen as the Ignited Minds Brigade. These student would carry out responsibilities like reading sessions, poster making and create new avenues for interactive learning. The ceremony began with a formal introductory speech followed by a puppet show that depicted the importance of reading. The children were enthralled by the puppet show. Then the guests of honour Dr. Ashok Vikhe Patil, Chairman of Dr. Vikhe Patil Foundation, Ms Nandini Joint Secretary and Director Schools Program and Mrs Mrinalini Bhosale, Principal-Vikhe Patil Memorial School, Lohegaon unveiled the books and opened the storehouse of knowledge.
Later, while addressing the students and guests, Dr. Ashok Vikhe Patil spoke about his interactions with Dr. Kalam and how Dr. Kalam is an inspiration to all. After the ceremony the Zilla Parishad students had a reading session where they enjoyed reading a lot of colourful and informative books. Students were excited to be a part of this session and were enthusiastic to read more. Similarly Vikhe Patil Memorial School, Lohegaon was equally excited to arrange for many more reading session and expose as many reading books as possible to the students.
