THE STORY OF EVERY BUDDING DOCTOR:
The biggest dream of every medical student is to set up his own practice and run it successfully. When we passed out as fresh postgraduates, our dreams were similar. We felt as if we are on top of the world. The next obvious step after passing out as a doctor was to start practicing. But it’s not as easy as it sounds. To start individual practice, one needs loads of self confidence. The confidence never comes from books. Books give us theoretical knowledge. And clinical practice needs more of practical knowledge than theory.
Now, where to find this practical knowledge?? The best place we thought would be a hospital! So, we joined one. Now, here begins the hardship...
The hospitals want us to work day and night but they are not ready to pay sufficient money!
The consultants want us to follow their line of treatment & their protocols, but are not ready to teach us the logic behind their treatment protocols.
How will we learn when we don’t know exactly why we are giving a certain medicine to a patient??
But who cares? To prescribe the drug is not our job !! (Though we are doctors!!).
There is no freedom for decision making……rather we are just expected to follow someone’s orders.
Our job is only limited to writing the continuation sheets, discharge summery & follow up instructions.
There is no one to ask our doubts, no one to clear our queries and no one to help us.
Now, what do we call ourselves?? Doctors….clerks or puppets??
And finally, when we finish our post of 6 months in the hospital, we have all protocols in our brain, but we are clueless about how, why, when and where to use these protocols!!
In this overtly competitive world, it’s really hard to find people who can share their experience and wisdom. Due to this, a large pool of students keeps running around various hospitals and clinics to gather some experience. This not only leaves the students being exploited by the hospitals, but also, the end result is very poor when it comes to developing skills. We had been through this. And mind you, this is not a pleasing experience.
This is the story of every budding Doctor !!
THE ANSWER TO THIS STORY:
Today we have settled as consultants in our respective fields.
But, when we look around, we still see hundreds of such students, running through hardship with the futile hope of gathering some experience.
We faced these problems, and we don’t want you all to go through this hardship. If we cannot correct this, then there is no use of the experience and wisdom that we have gathered over these years!
When you start your practice, when you treat your patients, we want you to know exactly what you are doing and what you should be doing. You should be confident in your approach. And you should know exactly when and where you should stop. We are here to help you gather this confidence.
This thought of sharing our knowledge was the first step towards formation of Doctor’sAcademy!
If we have gathered the knowledge, experience, skills and expertise….then we must share it. We know, knowledge increases...when shared.
The birth of Doctor’sAcademy is not an accidental one. Rather it’s a very well thought out and thoroughly researched concept taking into consideration the difficulties faced in clinical practice.
We are a huge team of over 50 postgraduate (MBBS-MD/ MBBS-MS) & super specialist (D.M. /M.Ch.) doctors, practicing successfully in our respective fields for several years. We had been teaching in several medical colleges, institutes, hospitals, CME and at various EMS/PGDEMS courses. We are wholeheartedly dedicated to share our knowledge and experience to cater the needs of budding medical students and general practitioners.
With several years of clinical, practical and teaching experience, we have come to know the exact needs of the medical students and discovered the art of ‘simplifying a complex problem for better understanding of the students’.
