In realism, edges are created by light, shadow and smooth colour transitions, not thick outlines.

Try this instead:

🌗 Let shadows define the edges

Using the same pencil strokes for every texture.

Different surfaces reflect light differently, so they also need different drawing techniques.

🐱 Fur → Short directional hair strokes

🌸 Flower Petals → Soft circular blending

🪵 Wood → Long strokes following the grain

✨ STOP using white pencil for every highlight!

If your highlights look chalky, dull or like white spots sitting on top of your drawing, the problem may have started much earlier.

For realistic highlights:

⚪ Preserve your brightest paper areas first
🔵 Add lighter colours around them
🎨 Build your midtones gradually
🟣 Add dark values last
✨ Keep the transition around the highlight soft

Remember:

The brightest highlight is often the paper you DIDN'T colour.

😩 Why does your colour-pencil drawing still look GRAINY?

Those tiny white gaps aren't always a sign that you need to press harder.

In fact, pressing too hard too early can make layering even more difficult. ❌

1️⃣ Start with very light pressure

3️⃣ Change your stroke direction
4️⃣ Gradually increase the pressure

Instead, try building your shadows with colour:

🌸 Start with the local colour
❤️ Add deeper reds
💜 Introduce purple
💙 Add dark blue to the deepest shadows
🖤 Use black only when it's actually needed
