We had wonderful student presentations of the SY MSc Environmental Science program in the presence of

Some presentations were fishy (microplastics in fishes) while others were masaledar (LCA of Masala); some took us underground (Groundwater extraction), while took us over and above the mountains (high elevation grasslands)! Finally we borrowed ourselves (burrowing crabs) and needed some Hirada to freshen us up!!!

Jokes apart, the team did well.

Thrilled to share that one of our PhD students, Nikhil Kuni, received a grant of USD 5000 towards a conservation action project on a rare and endemic moth species discovered from the Sikkim Himalayas.

Congratulations to our students Inshiya Vohra and Dhruv Parmar for securing a Junior Research Fellow position with the Melghat Tiger Reserve, Maharashtra.

Inshiya will be working on understanding the ecology and behavioral biology of the Endangered Forest Owlet providing important management recommendations.

Dhruv will be conducting the first-ever extensive Odonata (dragonfly & damselfly) survey and provide conservation management inputs.

🌿 New Jumping Spider Species Discovered from Baner Hill, Pune!

Exciting news for urban biodiversity! A new jumping spider species, Okinawicius tekdi, has been discovered on Pune's Baner Hill.

Named after the Marathi word for "hill," this spider highlights the need to protect our urban green spaces. 🕷️

Discovered by Atharva Kulkarni and Rishikesh Tripathi, with Dr. Pankaj Koparde and Dr. A.V. Sudhikumar, this tiny spider brings fresh attention to Pune’s rich yet fragile ecosystems.

Let’s rally to preserve the unique landscapes that support such hidden wonders! 🌍💚
