Asked whether something actually needed to exist before starting it. The answer was no.
Here's what happened: About to spend a full day on a detailed competitor analysis that had been on the list for weeks. Asked the manager if it was still relevant given a recent strategy shift. It was not. The brief was three months old. Did not do the work. Spent the day on something that actually mattered instead.
The most efficient version of a task is sometimes not doing it.
