Artist * Poet * Educator My bubble burst - one day, when I realized that I was trying to draw connections where there were none. Think about it for a while.

Dear Beloved Creative,

I used to think that if it weren't for the childhood trauma I would have never come in touch with my creativity, or my teaching/healing abilities, or my capacity to question and create love where there was little or none. I assumed that all my diverse creative mediums and the dying need to create in so many different ways is what helped me survive and thrive during grave c

What happens when your carefully drawn past resurfaces in such depth of articulation . It doesn't even feel like its you anymore.

2002 till 2026.

That evening my house helps alcoholic husband was hospitalised. I took them both in my Seiira car rushed to ER.

He died soon. She was relived.

I just had poetry flow thru me to my utter surprise.
But the night before while drawing this... a crow swept pass my eyes level at the balcony where i had my little corner to draw
The crow had a huge message which entered this expression.

I had no idea what my hands were drawing.

It looks like the life n love in death.

What's your urgent and emergent in art is organic,
An old memory of a way of being that sits well within us and around us as well.
It doesn't want us to get rid of it.
On the contrary it creates vitality and a calm awareness.

The other kind of mental or emotional urgency or anxiety is to be compared with.

Working on the cover of my second book.

Do you like it?

A photo graph that threatens the boundaries between reality and fiction.
I took this shot an hour back while on my evening walk. (In 2023 Feb)

I'm amazed how the "glimmer" catches hold of me. Surprised myself by the perfect colour balance, depth, mood and capture.

For parents whose children love to draw and paint :

Somebody in a Homeschooling group asked -

Father: "Hi, I'm looking for online art classes that are reasonably priced. Would love to get some recommendations, thank you! Hobby Art Classes probably, it's for my 7-year-old who has a huge interest in art. I'd like to have him enroll somewhere, which will him build foundational skills in different techniques."

Me: In hobby art classes there will be NO foundational or any other development possible. In fact the child will be further confused and go away from his natural drive/voice/ creative force.

If at 7 your child is showing exceptional attraction, talent or natural flair for drawing, painting then consider that you may have a gifted child at hand.

They need very different kind of nurturance.

Father:What would you suggest for a child starting out?

Me : I am glad you asked - It may be an in-depth reply but that's the only way I know.

So at 7, a child is at the stage where he/she has had "enough experience" of the world/environment they are born in.
Now they take to "expression" by drawing, writing, talking sports or whatever means they begin to fixate on a few mediums.
Here's the part you may find hard to believe - a healthy well nurtured child will usually fixate only on ONE medium, one style or tool of expression AT A TIME. Once they exhaust that "idea" or inspired state of being they may move to another medium or subject al together.

When people see a child doing a range of different expressions/mediums or indulging in many subjects at a time (which is the school environment) and praise the versatility of the child is actually a demonstration of a distracted mind...calling out for help.

SO - at 7 a child needs to be allowed full space of self-expression because they are FIGURING out and LIterally crafting their identity by TRYING out different ways of being in the SAFE SPACE of art expression.

Why Art? Because unlike other subjects like maths, history, sports etc Art does NOT hold a set standard a child has to reach.
Most parents and even educators have NO idea about the real potential of ART SPACE and leave the child to "have a good time" without intervening.

While to some extent that is a good thing for the child, however a parent/educator's role is to VALIDATE this engagement and approve of its importance.

All I find them saying is "Wow, that's a nice painting". That does more damage at this age.

Why? Again... if you enter the child's world and experience what he/she is experiencing you may notice that they are NOT so much focused on WHAT they are painting but on HOW that process is making them feel.

Also, this is the ONLY age when a child has access to the full range of imagination and their relationship with the imagination needs to be built fully. This relationship creates the "idea of the world" which is way more useful to them/us throughout life than the many million and often warped versions of reality we keep dishing them.
So you see that children go through a lot of mental health and adjustment issues soon after BECAUSE primarily they were not allowed to build a healthy enough relationship with themselves, their "idea" of what the world around them is and the strategies they would build to navigate it.

So at age 7, once again the teacher/parent/care-giver has to be able to enter the child's world and join this journey of co-regulation, exploration and expression in a way that is genuine and real.

Show me how many families have a separate drawing table to respect a childs interest and love for the art?
Whereas if the child showed a little interest in maths etc- 10 tutors will be hired.

My point is that Arts affords the KEY, EXISTENTIAL learning which KEEPS the child in touch with his own Original SENSE OF SELF. That which will keep him in a whole-being awareness, he will excel at ANY subject in any field with THAT. Right?!
