Celebrating 3 important days today.
MAHARASHTRA DAY
Maharashtra Day, celebrated annually on May 1st, marks the creation of the state of Maharashtra on May 1, 1960, following the bifurcation of the bilingual Bombay State into Marathi-speaking Maharashtra and Gujarati-speaking Gujarat. It honors the Samyukta Maharashtra movement, which fought for a separate state for Marathi speakers with Bombay (now Mumbai) as its capital.
GUJARAT DAY
Gujarat Day, or Gujarat Sthapana Divas, is celebrated on May 1st every year to commemorate the formal establishment of the state of Gujarat on May 1, 1960. It marks the bifurcation of the former Bombay State into two distinct linguistic states: Gujarati-speaking Gujarat and Marathi-speaking Maharashtra, based on the Bombay Reorganization Act, 1960.
LABOUR DAY
Labour Day, celebrated annually on May 1st (often referred to as May Day), is a global public holiday honoring the achievements, rights, and contributions of workers. It originated from 19th-century labor movements demanding an 8-hour workday, becoming a day for parades and rallies protesting labor exploitation.
Labour Day in India is widely known as Antarrashtriya Shramik Diwas, May Day, or Kamgar Din. It focuses on fair wages, safe conditions, and the 8-hour workday, honoring labor's role in nation-building with rallies, events, and a day off for workers.
