Today on 28th February, we celebrate National Science Day to commemorate a special event in the scientific progress of our nation. On 28th February, 1928, the discovery of the inelastic scattering of photons by matter was put forth by Sir C.V Raman, along with his co-worker K.S. Krishnan. This scattering effect is known as the Raman Effect in his honour. He became the first Indian to win a Nobel Prize in Physics in 1930 for this discovery.
Raman effect or Raman Scattering is now subject to a deeper study in optics and spectroscopy and is used for the analysis of a wide range of materials, including living cells and human tissue. It also finds applications in the domains of chemical imaging, atmospheric science, quantum computing and many more.

Today we have witnessed history unfold, as Chandrayaan-3's Vikram Lander completed a successful soft landing near the south lunar pole. We are immensely proud of and inspired by ISRO for this marvellous achievement. With this, India becomes only the fourth nation to successfully land on the Moon. We are looking forward to learning several new and interesting things about the lunar surface through the Pragyaan rover. Congratulations to Team ISRO!!

We are nearing the time of the much awaited landing of he Chandrayaan-3 mission and its lander Vikram. It is expected to complete a soft landing on the lunar surface today on 23rd of August 2023 around 18:00 Hrs IST.
Where is the Vikram Lander expected to Land ? It is a little towards the east and a bit south of the famous Tycho Crater. The Tycho Crater is one of the most prominent feature when the moon is viewed through a telescope. A normal telescopic view shows the crater at the top of the moon with long "rays" emanating from it.
Remember that a telescope inverts the image of the object. However, a binocular shows an erect image.
The soft landing of Chandrayaan-3 is a moment that not only fuels curiosity but also sparks a passion for exploration within the minds of our youth. It generates a profound sense of pride and unity as we look to celebrate the prowess of Indian science and technology.
This eagerly anticipated event will be broadcasted live on August 23, 2023, starting from 17:20 Hrs. IST. The live coverage will be available via multiple platforms, including the ISRO Website , YouTube, ISRO's page , and DD National TV channel. We wish ISRO all the very best for this landmark achievement!
