Recent data released by the Department of Science and Technology, Government of India (DST) reflects an increase in the participation of in and fields in the last two decades. As per the data, the percentage of women has increased from 13.9 in 2015 to 18.7 in 2018.
In 2018-19, around 28% of women participated in extramural R&D projects as compared to 13% in 2000-01.
An overall increase is observed in almost all the fields, but an encouraging rise of women researchers is seen in the field of social sciences and humanities. The percentage of women researchers in the social sciences and humanities is 36.4% while that in and is 14.5%. In natural sciences and it is 22.5% each and in health sciences it is 24.5%.
