MIT-Wpu School of Civil Engineering

The Department of Civil Engineering at MIT WPU recently hosted the National Academic Immersion Program (NAIP) from 24th April to 5th May 2023, at NIT, Rourkela. This short-term study program was designed for both students and faculty members, providing them with a comprehensive understanding of Geo-structures.

The course, which was centred on the topic of "Geo-structures," sought to provide participants with a comprehensive understanding of this important facet of civil engineering. The programme provided a well-rounded curriculum that integrated theoretical ideas with real-world applications, under the direction of eminent specialists in the field.

Throughout the immersive experience, students and faculty members engaged in comprehensive workshops, practical exercises, and site visits. They delved into topics such as foundation engineering, retaining structures, ground improvement techniques, and geotechnical instrumentation. This hands-on approach allowed participants to apply their knowledge in real-world scenarios, strengthening their problem-solving and critical-thinking skills.

The NAIP at NIT, Rourkela, provided a unique platform for networking and collaboration, facilitating the exchange of ideas among participants and mentors alike. By the end of the program, all attendees had gained invaluable insights into Geo-structures and acquired the confidence to tackle the challenges posed by geotechnical engineering projects.

From all of us at the Department of Civil Engineering, we congratulate our alumnus Vedang Patil for getting selected as an outstanding student pursuing engineering studies in the state of Illinois and securing the ‘Structural Engineers Foundation Max Zar Scholarship’ for the year 2023-24.

MIT WPU, SoCE conducted a two day programme titled ‘Utilisation of Underground Space for Sustainable Development of the Planet’ on 24th and 25th April 2023. Various renowned speakers like Veronica Petschen, Dr. RK Goel, Mr, Benoit de Rivaz, Dr. Bineshian Hoss, Dr. Robert Galler, Mr. Prabhat Mittal, Mr. Daniel Daum and Mr. RK Khali presented their expert views on most influential infrastructure topics. The session proved to be extremely fruitful for all the attendees.
