Awantipora, Nov. 26: Prof. Shakil Ahmad Romshoo, Vice-Chancellor, Islamic University of Science & Technology (IUST) has been awarded the prestigious J. C. Bose Fellowship by the Anusandhan National Research Foundation (ANRF), Government of India, for the year 2025.The J. C. Bose Fellowship is among Indiaโs highest scientific honours, conferred on scientists who demonstrate sustained excellence, global impact, and leadership in their fields. Prof. Romshoo, a distinguished earth scientist, has over 37 years of pioneering work on Himalayan glaciology, hydrology, and climate change, contributing significantly to national policy formulation and Indiaโs positions under various international environmental frameworks. ANRF commended the transformative nature of Prof. Romshooโs research, particularly its relevance to water security, climate adaptation, disaster preparedness and transboundary water sharing. The โน1.3 crore Fellowship will further advance his research on cryosphere climate water interactions and the award acknowledges his proven ability to conceptualize and lead complex, multi-institutional research programmes.Prof. Romshoo has an exceptional scholarly record, with over 290 publications, including more than 50 lead-author papers in the past five years. His accolades include the National Geoscience Award, Satish Dhawan Award, Kasumigaura International Prize, a state award from J&K Government and many other honours. He is an elected Fellow of the Indian Academy of Sciences and other leading scientific bodies.IUST warmly congratulates Prof. Romshoo on this distinguished recognition and celebrates his outstanding scientific contributions, international standing, and transformative impact on Himalayan science, society, and policymaking.

IUSTโs Media Students Visit DDK Sgr; Meet DDG, Jt Dir, and Other Officials
The Department of Journalism and Mass Communication (DJMC) at the Islamic University of Science and Technology (IUST) organized a day-long field visit to Doordarshan Kendra (DDK) Srinagar for its television journalism students.
The visit was conducted under the Industry Connect initiative to provide students with first-hand experience of the operations at a television broadcasting station particularly the Regional News Unit at DDK.
During the tour, the students visited various facilities and sections within the Kendra including the news unit, production control rooms, studios and earth station. The visit provided an opportunity to interact with senior officials from Doordarshan Kendra Srinagar, including Deputy Director General (Engineering) S. Sanjeev who briefed them about the latest broadcasting service.
Students were given an elaborate tour by the Joint Director, Press Information Bureau, Srinagar, and RNU, DDK Qazi Salman who provided insights about the teams involved in news and other operations at the Kendra. During the visit, various key personnel including News Editors RNU DD Srinagar Shabir Dar and Sheikh Mudasir Amin and Producer Asif Nabi Khan gave a hands-on experience of the different sections.
The students had the chance to have an engaging question-and-answer session with the officials. The department has been actively undertaking various efforts to build a deeper understanding of the field and provide necessary practical skills to its students.
Head DJMC Dr Mujeeb Liyakat said, โThe visit is part of IUSTโs extensive activities undertaken under the universityโs flagship Industry Connect Program envisioned by Vice Chancellor, Prof Shakil Ahmad Romshoo, which aims to bridge the gap between academia and industry.โ
The students were accompanied by Coordinator Industry Connect DJMC Dr. Monisa Qadiri and Faculty of Television Journalism, and Technical Assistant, Mr. Zahoor Ahmad.
Speaking about the visit, Dr Qadiri said, โIn line with their practical requirements, the visit proved to be a unique opportunity for students to witness the behind-the-scenes processes at a television network and were briefed by respective teams on camera operation and recording, lighting, and editing, live transmission, uplinking, and downlinking of different feeds.โ
