On Tuesday during Teacher Talks I attended a webinar on Inquiry-based approach in lab facilitated by Ajay P.

I was really impressed by Ajay's presentation on how to use an inquiry-based approach to teach students lab investigation skills. He shared a number of practical tips and an example.

Elyana is currently the English language coordinator at British International Academy in Amman Jordan. She is also a Language and Literature MYP Teacher for years 4 and 5 (Grades 9 and 10). In addition to her role at my school, she is an IDU BQC reviewer, concept based curriculum and instruction trainer and an educator with Ascend Now.

Rupa is currently the MYP Coordinator at Prometheus International School Noida (India). She has been associated with International schools in India and Indonesia for over two decades in various capacities such as Whole School Language Coordinator, Extended Essay Coordinator, TOK group leader. She has also actively led her schools through different accreditation processes and held multiple positions. She has been working with IB in various roles for more than six years.

Liz Cyriac is the secondary school counsellor and DP Psychology teacher at Mount Litera School International with an MA in Counselling Psychology from Nanyang Technological University in Singapore. She is an REBT practitioner. She believes that learning to look out for our emotional well-being is a really important part of being ready for the great big world.
She enjoys gardening, watching cooking shows and playing video games.

Lubna Sayed is the Head of Middle School at Australian International Academy in Kellyville,Sydney. She has been an IB/ IGCSE and A Level teacher for over 15 years. Over the years she has taught in different countries which has given me an insight into school cultures in different regions and with students from very diverse backgrounds. This makes her very passionate about the language used by the teachers to communicate with students and to get them to think about using communication to create a positive influence.

For as long as she can remember, Eman Sayed, has been fascinated by the human experience; all that makes us unique and individual including our personalities, feelings, thoughts and behaviours. That fascination has culminated into a bachelor degree in psychology and she will be completing her honours thesis in the field this year. Currently she is the school counsellor at Australian International Academy Kellyville, Sydney but has previously worked in the disability sector as a support coordinator for participants with mental illnesses and as an ABA therapist for children on the spectrum. All things mental health fascinate her!

About Barbara Bilgre: An educator for over 20 years with 17 years of IB experience, Barbara has taught DP Biology, ESS and MYP Science and is the current MYPC at Horizon Japan International School. She has successfully led 2 schools through MYP Authorization, and has also served as CAS Coordinator, Head of Department for Science and Year Group Leader. She used to conduct research on the social patterns of wild dolphins, and continues to run her own elephant behavioral research project in Ghana.

About Abhimanyu Das Gupta: Abhimanyu Das Gupta, who is currently the PYP Coordinator at the Aga Khan Academy, Hyderabad, has been an educator since 1999, and has been working with IB programmes since 2004. He has worked at reputed international schools in India, in a range of roles, from being a Home Room Teacher, a Grade Level Coordinator, and a PYP Coordinator (since 2011) at the Pathways World School, Aravali to being the Head of Primary (2014 – 2020) at the Singapore International School, Mumbai. He has been an IBEN member since 2011 and an Online Workshop Leader since 2013, and is also training with Harvard Graduate School of Education on school management and leadership. He has been a regular at SAIBSA conferences, hand-holding and training newcomers to the IB world by sharing his thoughts and skills, and has also recently facilitated a breakout session in the virtual IB Regional Conference, 2021 on ‘Reimagining Leadership’. Besides education, he is also passionate about nature and technology. This unique balance helps him enrich his core approaches in value-based education. As an outcome of this inner search, he has recently been awarded the MIE Expert badge from Microsoft and selected as a Climate Action Project Facilitator. He continues to learn from his peers who are spread across the world, through his active networking on social media platforms like Twitter and Linkedin. He feels most at home inside a classroom, interacting with young minds. He is also an avid blogger and truly defines what it means to be a life-long learner.

Join us on Friday, 19th November at 6.30 P.M. Indian time for a PYP chat with Rachel Wayne, as she shares some insights for new and aspiring PYP Coordinators.

Rachel Wayne, the current Assistant Principal in the PYP at ACS Doha, feels ready and privileged to be the best version of herself that she can be. As an empowered leader, she strives in turn to empower students to learn, teachers to teach, and parents to trust them both. As a teacher since 2000, an IB educator since 2010, a PYP coordinator since 2015 and an Assistant Principal since 2020, it has been a long journey making it, baby step at a time into administration. Rachel Wayne would like to thank all the IB Coordinators and administrators she has worked with in the past, as well as supportive students and parents who have motivated her to be where she is today. Rachel believes that “Leadership is a privilege to better the lives of others. It is not an opportunity to satisfy personal greed.” (3rd Kenyan President, Mwai Kibaki). Rachel is not in a leadership position to improve her own life, but dares to lead in order to support inspirational teaching and prepare the students to be ready for whatever this world has to come.
