Converge 2.0, the Academia-Industry Summit, was an event designed to bridge the gap between academic institutions and the industry, aimed to foster innovation, creativity, and collaboration among the younger generation, empowering them to explore entrepreneurial opportunities. The event was organized by the Directorate of Higher Education, Government of Goa, and took place across 40 different colleges of Goa from 5th to 12th March 2025. The inaugural function was held at Durbar Hall of Raj Bhavan in Dona Paula on 4th March and valedictory function was held at Ravindra Bhavan in Margao on 13th March 2025. The inaugural function was graced by the Honourable Chief Minister of Goa, Dr. Pramod Sawant, who felicitated two outstanding young entrepreneurs, from Goan Colleges. Two of our students Miss Vedika Naik and Mr. Aditya Jaiswal, were felicitated at the hands of Honourable CM, for their remarkable contributions to the field of entrepreneurship.
As part of the pre-Converge activities, the Directorate of Higher Education hosted the Innovative Idea Challenge competition across the state. The competition attracted over 100 teams, each presenting innovative ideas with the potential to address real-world challenges. After the first round of evaluations, 25 teams were shortlisted, and from there, 10 finalists emerged. These top teams were invited to present their ideas on March 13, 2025, at Ravindra Bhavan in Margao. One such team, from PES College, comprising Ms. Gayatri Naik, Ms. Sejal Popkar, Ms. Shweta Gaude, and Mr. Govard Naik, presented their project under the brand name "Anukool." Their innovative idea impressed the panel of judges, and PES College was awarded 3rd prize in the state-level competition. The panel of judges included industry experts such as Ms. Rohini Gonsalves, Ms. Raffina Sheikh, and Ms. Varsha Adusumillii, who evaluated the presentations based on creativity, feasibility, and impact.
In addition to the competition, valedictory function featured a series of motivational sessions delivered by notable industry leaders. These sessions were designed to inspire and equip students with the knowledge and confidence needed to pursue their entrepreneurial goals. The speakers included Mr. Ameya Kapadi, studio production professional, Mr. Dhruv Sincro, Actor, Model and owner of Sincro studios, Mr. Ankur Kankonkar, CEO AnkylyticX and TEDx Speaker, Miss Tanvi Shah, Manager CSR Programs CSR BOX, Mr. Rohit Rajpurohit, Senior Manager at CSR BOX, and Mr. Akshay Deshpande, Head of Marketing at TCS Ion Vocational Education. Each speaker shared their experiences and insights, offering valuable guidance to the young audience on how to navigate the challenges of the business world.
During the post-lunch segment, Miss Vedika Naik, a young entrepreneur form our college participated as a panellist in a discussion alongside other young entrepreneurs from various colleges in Goa. The panel was moderated by Mr. Stedwick Fernandes, Head of Operations and Regional Trainer for BNI Goa. The discussion provided a platform for these young entrepreneurs to share their personal journeys, the challenges they faced, and the lessons they had learned along the way. The panellists discussed the importance of perseverance, innovation, and strategic thinking in building a successful business, providing the audience with real-world insights into the entrepreneurial landscape.
During the prize distribution ceremony, prizes for the Innovative Idea Challenge were presented by Shri Bhushan Savaikar, the Director of Higher Education. The event also recognized the efforts of the TIP Coordinators from South Goa colleges, who had worked tirelessly to organize Converge 2.0 in their respective institutions. Additionally, the contributions of student volunteers who had assisted in organizing the valedictory function were acknowledged by the Directorate of Higher Education. These recognitions highlighted the importance of collaboration and teamwork in making the summit a success.
In conclusion, Converge 2.0 was a significant event that provided a platform for young minds to showcase their ideas, learn from industry experts, and engage with peers and mentors. The Innovative Idea Challenge, along with the motivational sessions and panel discussions, helped cultivate a spirit of entrepreneurship among the participants. With the support of industry leaders, academic institutions, and government bodies, Converge 2.0 proved to be an inspiring and impactful summit for all involved, setting the stage for future generations of innovators and entrepreneurs in Goa.
