Oasis 2K18: Day 0 and Day 1.

Another year, another Oasis.
Here's looking back to this year's events.
Where on one side, departments and clubs were tirelessly working to ensure that the fest was in full flow, the grand inauguration ceremony kickstarted the much grander fest to come.

Counterculture began here.

Inaug began with Music Club, Dance Club and Mime Club taking stage, followed by a brief interaction with Chief Guest, Abhishek Chaubey. The events then followed up in Rotunda, where the Post Rock band from Delhi, Ioish gave the crowd a taste of some 'headbanging'.
The Choreo event the following day managed to keep the spirits of the spectators up even on a hot sunny afternoon.
The day ended with the main stage performance by Guthrie Govan in the evening.

Prof Show : May Island and Parashara, BOSM 2k18

The second Prof Show on Day 3 of BOSM, despite being free of charge, surprisingly did not entice many. BITSian crowd is always unpredictable. But the many who missed rued having missed May Island in full swing and the animated Parashara members who left the audience nonplussed. Overall, it was a fervent ending to a cold, rain-drenched day.

Day 2 of the BITS Open Sports Meet (BOSM) witnessed the much anticipated Prof Show, which had Chandigarh based indie rock band Nalaayak and Prashasti Singh, a comedian of Comicstaan fame, enthrall the audiences with their performances. The night started with Prashasti entertaining her spectators with her witty humour and peculiar style. The audience then swayed and danced to the melodies of Nalaayak, which served as the perfect ending to the night.

Celebrities lighting lamps for events is a common sight. But when the limelight is on a man who made an entire nation proud of his achievements, someone who placed his nation in front of him, you don't need a second thought to state that the evening was lit. With Gurukul enthralling the crowd with their musical talent as always, and a motivational speech from the chief guest himself, the BITS Open Sports Meet commenced, and nobody could ask for any better.

With smiles and laughter all around, kids from the neighbouring villages of Pilani took part in ‘Kadam’, a pre-BOSM sports event hosted by Nirmaan Organisation for the first time at the Pooja Grounds. The event saw the kids take part in numerous games such as Tug-of-War, Spoon -and-Lemon race and races of other kind. Celebrations for the auspicious event of Krishna Janmashtami took place at Nat Basti, where kids had a go at Dahi Handi and sweets were distributed all around.

In what proved to be an enthralling performance, Sangam Nite had much to offer with a multitude of dance performances and soulful music including a Qawwali rendition. Of all the acts, the ones that stood out were the breakdancing trouple, and a standup duo which managed to tickle the funny bones of the audience. The event was vibrant and energetic, giving many a chance to perform on the big stage and setting the tone for many Cultural Associations to come.

“A memory lasts forever, never will it die. True friends stay together and never say goodbye”, were the thoughts that echoed around as the crowd swayed to the tracks at the Psenti Nite presented by Music Club. The impressive line-up featured songs from artists such as Porcupine Tree, Sticky Fingers, Dream Theater and many more. The night also saw Psenti Semites perform on stage for the last time as they bid adieu to the life they’ve been a part of for the last few years.

‘Dhwani’, a three hour musical extravaganza by Gurukul saw a unique mixture of tracks and tunes from a myriad of genres including rap, pop and rock featuring Oasis, Owl-city, RHCP, Linkin Park, and Arijit Singh.

The impressive line-up seemed to attracted large crowds, as people ‘swayed’ to the music and over-enthusiastic cheers filled the auditorium from all corners.

Each year on the 26th of January, the Prime Minister of India addresses the nation. Each year, the Prime Minister speaks proudly of a bold, resurgent India - A country clawing her way through centuries of superstition, illiteracy and hunger to claim her rightful place in the new world.

There's also another India. She's dirt-poor, lives off two square meals each day, and has no future to look forward to. She lives in squalor and disease, in the fetid slums right next to the skyscrapers held aloft as a symbol of India Shining. She comes to your home, cleans your toilets, and begs for a little more money to send her kids to school, at the end of each month.
This Republic Day, the Department of Photography with NIRMAAN BITS Pilani chose to visit a basti, to spend some time with the other India. We set out with the intention to ‘brighten their day’ – and were embarrassed at our presumption, when we met the sunny, cheerful children. They were either ignorant or accepting of the squalor they lived in. We tried to teach, but were given a chastening lesson by the humility and the enthusiasm of the children.

They represent the masses who rarely make it to prime-time television, and yet constitute the heart of this nation. Their deaths unmourned, their screams unheard.

The 67th Founders Day was celebrated on the 22nd of January,2018 with great zest and enthusiasm. The day marks the festival of Basant Panchami, celebrated in honour of Sarawati, the Hindu Goddess of learning. In what proved to be a memorable event, the cultural extravaganza in the evening saw classical music recitals, mime demonstrations and an exuberant lineup of dance and drama performances by students from various cultural associations on campus. The event was attended by various dignitaries, faculty members and students alike.

Oasis 2017 is finally here. It’s that time of the year when the campus witnesses a flurry of colors and people, Prof shows to highlight the evenings and events which cater to the interest of the diverse crowd that has ascended on campus. Surely, the time of the year almost every BITSian looks forward to. Do take some time to go for the events once you are done ‘people’ watching. Actually worth going for :)
Oasis last year was just as colorful. It stood up to its reputation as one of the biggest college festivals in the country, with performances by the brilliant Amit Trivedi and Coke Studio, the massively talented Blackstratblues, the truly funny Karan Talwar aka Bollywood Gandu and many more. Here’s a little throwback before we head to the next chapter later today. Have fun!

The second day of BOSM ended, and with it yet more of its thrilling competitions. After the day’s nail-biting football matches, the evening proved riotously funny as Rahul Subramanian and Sumit Anand’s Punch Hour left the audience in splits. Between stories of Ravi Shastri’s post-match interviews and tales of Mumbaikar road rage, the day was brought to a fitting end, leaving participants both BITSian and outstation content.
