12 curated startups, alumni-founded ventures at revenue stage, plus graduates of the Hub's first 3-month acceleration cohort, will pitch to investors, industry leaders, alumni founders, and ecosystem partners including NASSCOM, KDEM, and RBIH.

BITS Pilani is proud to celebrate its alumni who are building the AI interactive content format.

Shourya Agarwal (Batch of 2013), Founder & CEO; Malhar Patil (Batch of 2012), Co-founder; and Amit Gaiki (Batch of 2012), Co-founder & CTO, have marked a significant milestone with their company, Flam, raising $40 million in Series B funding.

Backed by Shah Rukh Khan, QED Investors and other global investors, Flam is already used by 100+ enterprises, including Google, Samsung, Netflix, Reliance and Hyundai.

What does it take to build AI systems that the world can truly trust? As AI rapidly transforms society, the need for systems that are safe, reliable, accountable and designed for public good has never been greater.

At BITS Pilani, the Safe & Trusted AI (STAI) Group will be inaugurated on 19 September 2026, bringing together perspectives from academia, industry, government and law to advance research in AI safety and its broader implications, with a particular focus on high-impact and public-sector applications.

Founded by Prof. Siddharth Mehrotra, STAI is a BITS Pilani research initiative focused on safe, reliable and trustworthy AI. It explores AI safety, governance and public-sector applications.

The inauguration will feature distinguished voices from across the AI and technology ecosystem, including:

Prof. V Ramgopal Rao, Group Vice Chancellor, BITS Pilani; Sir Vint Cerf Vice President, Google & Scientific Advisor; Dr. Preeti Banzal, Office of the Principal Scientific Adviser to the Government of India; Prof. John Augustine, IIT Madras; N. S. Nappinai, Senior Advocate, Supreme Court of India & Founder, CyberSaathi; Gowri Shankar Ravindran, Director of Engineering, Adobe India

The programme will also feature student research flash talks, showcasing the first cohort of researchers from the group.

This Engineerโ€™s Day, we wanted to celebrate a professor who has dedicated four decades to BITS Pilani.

Professor G Sundarโ€™s association with BITS began in 1987. Over the years, his journey has taken him through teaching, academic administration, institutional development, industry engagement, and student welfare, with each role contributing to the growth of the Institute.

As Director, BITS Pilani, Hyderabad Campus, he led the campus through an important phase of its growth. As Director of Off-Campus Programmes and Industry Engagement, he played a key role in transforming the Work Integrated Learning Programmes, strengthening their reach and connection with industry. He has also contributed significantly to the growth and evolution of the Practice School programme.

But ask many BITS alumni about Professor Sundar, and they will remember something beyond the titles and positions.

They remember his teaching. His mentorship. The conversations. The guidance at just the right time.

For many, he is one of those people who feels synonymous with BITS Pilani.

And that is why, on Engineerโ€™s Day, it felt only right to share the journey of a leader whose contribution to BITS goes far beyond the roles he has held.

We are proud to congratulate Professor G. Sundar on receiving the BITS Pilani Outstanding Contribution Award for 2026, recognising his exceptional, sustained and multifaceted contribution to the Institute.

Four decades of contribution.
And an impact that will stay much longer.

BITS Pilani hosted Japan Career Day 2026 at its Pilani campus, under the Global Southโ€“Japan Tech Talent Initiative (GS-JTI), a METI, Government of Japan programme connecting skilled students across the Global South with career and internship opportunities in Japan.

For the second year running, BITS Pilani was chosen to host the initiative, building on last year's strong response. This edition welcomed a ~30-member Japanese delegation, including METI, the Japan Science and Technology Agency (JST), Deloitte Tohmatsu Venture Support Co., Ltd., Tech Japan Inc., and six Japanese companies , Ur AI Co. Ltd., SAKURUG Co. Ltd., Fermelanta, Inc., Directors Inc., QUINQUE Inc., and Satake Corporation, spanning AI, digital transformation, biotech, consulting, branding, and agri-tech.

The delegation interacted with Prof. Sudhirkumar V. Barai (Director), Prof. NVM Rao (Dean, Administration), Col. Soumyabrata Chakraborthy, and Prof. Yoshiro Azuma (visiting faculty from Japan, Department of Physics, BITS Pilani K K Birla Goa Campus), along with faculty members. Student teams presented and demonstrated their work to the delegation, which also visited the Rakesh Kapoor Innovation Center before company presentations at the Main Auditorium. The day closed with direct student interactions at the New Academic Block, where students explored internship and career opportunities with participating companies.

The programme builds on 2025's India-Japan talent initiatives, when Japan Career Days ran across 8 Indian universities with 17 Japanese companies, leading to 98 students from 22 universities (selected from over 2,000 applicants) interning with Japanese companies in India and Japan.
