Minimum 60% or 6.0 CGPA in B.E./ B.Tech/ M.E/ M.Tech in Chemical Engineering or equivalent, such as Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Electronics and Communications Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Biotechnology, Energy Engineering etc.

The Department of Chemical Engineering, Birla Institute of Technology and Science, Pilani – Pilani Campus, in association with the Indian Institute of Chemical Engineers (IIChE) Pilani Regional Centre, has successfully conducted the 5th Workshop on Analytical Instruments for Chemical and Environmental Engineers (WAICEE-2023) during March 28-29, 2023.

This workshop was inaugurated in J.C. Chaudhry NAB Auditorium by Prof. Sreedevi Upadhyayula, Class of 66 Chair Professor, Department of Chemical Engineering, IIT Delhi, in the presence of Prof V Ramgopal Rao, Vice-Chancellor, BITS Pilani and Prof. Sudhirkumar V Barai, Director, BITS Pilani – Pilani Campus. Prof Sreedevi delivered a keynote address on Surface science in heterogeneous reactions and catalysis and explained how one could predict the activities of the catalysts simply by characterization using proper analytical instruments.

The workshop covered theory as well as a practical demonstration of Gas Chromatography (GC), High-Pressure Liquid Chromatography (HPLC), UV-VIS Spectrophotometer, Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometer (AAS), Fourier Transform Infrared Spectrophotometer (FTIR), Thermal Gravimetric Analyzer (TGA), X-Ray Diffraction (XRD), Gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS), Differential Scanning Calorimetry (DSC), Field emission scanning electron microscopy (FESEM) and X-ray Photoelectron Spectroscopy (XPS).

The workshop included presentations by eminent researchers on ongoing research related to the use of these instruments. There were nine keynote lectures and seven practical demonstrations. The invited speakers include Dr Snehalkumar Parmar, Sr. Research Engineer, Reliance Industries Limited, Prof. Joysurya Basu, IIT (BHU), Prof. Subhashis Gangopadhyay, BITS Pilani and Sh. Vikram Singh Parihar, Chief Scientific Officer, Rajasthan State Pollution Control Board. Department of Chemical Engineering faculty members Prof. Suresh Gupta, Dr. Somak Chatterjee , Dr Srinivas Appari, Prof Smita Raghuvanshi, and Dr Krishna Etika covered the various technical aspects.

Besides our internal delegates, there was participation from Banasthali Vidyapith, MNIT Jaipur, Swami Keshavananda Institute of Pharmacy (SKIP) Bikaner and National Council for Cement and Building Materials (NCCBM) Faridabad. Total of 45 participants, 27 from outstation and 18 internal participants.

Best Oral Contribution Award@2nd International Conference on Water Technology 2022 (ICWT 2022), held at IIT Bombay, India!

Recently,

Mr. Abhishek Anand, one of our departmental Ph.D. Scholar attended ICWT conference held at IIT Bombay from 01/12/2022 to 02/12/2022. He delivered a talk on "Performance evaluation of bacterial consortium for bio-mitigation of CO2+SO2 utilizing wastewater". We feel proud to announce that; Mr. Abhishek was awarded for Best Oral Contribution Award on the theme of Bio-Physical Remediation.

This research work can fulfill three significant demands of today's society. It can overcome the problems related to Water pollution, Air pollution, and Energy demands.

This research work would not have been possible without the endless support and guidance of Mr. Abhishek’s Ph.D. supervisors, Prof. Smita Raghuvanshi and Prof. Suresh Gupta of Chemical Department.

Hearty congratulations to Mr. Abhishek, Prof. Smita Raghuvanshi, and Prof. Suresh Gupta, for this remarkable achievement and research, carried out; on behalf of the whole chemical engineering department.

Late Post, Engineer's Day Celebrations!

On the occasion of Engineer’s day, which is celebrated on the 15th of September, the Chemical Engineering Department of BITS-Pilani, Pilani, organized a talk delivered by Dr. M.O. Garg (President, Refining R &D, Reliance Industries Ltd., Mumbai), followed by a poster presentation competition.

Department would like to thank Prof. Arvind Kumar Sharma for addressing the audience with a very informative presentation on Sir MV (Mokshagundam Visvesvaraya, Indian Engineer) and for enlightening the role of chemical engineers.

Department announced 3 best poster awards.

A panel of 4 Faculty members- Prof. Pradipta Chattopadhyay, Prof. H. K. Mohanta, Dr. Mohit Garg, and Dr. Sarbani Ghosh constituted as judges for selecting the Best Posters out of the total 12 posters displayed.

Hearty congratulations to all the winners of the poster presentation who were awarded certificates and cash prizes.
