State-owned IDBI Bank, Bank of Maharashtra and Dena Bank will receive a capital infusion from the government in lieu of preferential allotment of shares. IDBI Bank will get Rs 2,500 crore funding from the government, subject to regulatory approvals. Board of directors of the bank at a meeting held today approved proposal to allot preference shares to the government. “Board of directors of the bank has approved the proposal for preferential issue of capital to government and other financial institutions, if any aggregating up to Rs 2,500 crore,” IDBI Bank said in an exchange filing. IDBI Bank extraordinary general meeting is scheduled for April 27 for obtaining shareholders’ approval to allot preferential shares to the government.

After the suspended BJP MP Ram Jethmalani shot a number of questions at the BJP, the finance minister, Arun Jaitley briefed Rajya Sabha on the progress of recovery of black money from foreign bank accounts. During the question hour Jaitley informed that the government had completed investigations against people named in HSBC and Liechtenstein banks and made an assessment totaling around Rs 15,000 crore.

New-Delhi headquartered The Bharatiya Mahila Bank (BMB) will be merged with the country's largest lender State Bank of India (SBI). The move will ensure that banking services are provided to more women at a faster pace, given the advantage of the large network of SBI. SBI has already announced the merger of its five associates- State Bank of Bikaner and Jaipur, State Bank of Hyderabad, State Bank of Mysore, State Bank of Patiala and State Bank of Travancore. The customers of these five banks will be treated as customers of State Bank of India with effect from April 1, 2017.
