Government General Degree College at Pedong observed Paschim Banga Diwas on 20th June 2026 with due solemnity and enthusiasm. The programme was organised by the Indian Knowledge System Committee in collaboration with the Cultural Sub-committee of the College, reflecting the institution’s dedication to fostering awareness of Bengal’s historical and cultural legacy.
The event commenced with an Essay Writing Competition open to students of the 2nd and 4th Semesters. The competition encouraged participants to engage thoughtfully with themes related to the history and identity of West Bengal, providing a valuable academic exercise in keeping with the spirit of the occasion.
This was followed by a Cultural Programme that celebrated the rich and diverse heritage of Bengal through performances and presentations, offering students a vivid appreciation of the region’s traditions and artistic legacy.
A highlight of the programme was a PowerPoint presentation delivered by Asst. Prof. Roshni Pradhan on the topic “The Partition of Bengal and the Formation of Bengal: The Historical Perspectives.” The presentation offered students a well-structured and informative account of the historical forces that shaped Bengal, tracing the events that led to its partition and the circumstances that gave rise to the present-day state of West Bengal.
The programme witnessed wholehearted participation from students and faculty members alike, making it a memorable and enriching observance. The collaborative efforts of the Indian Knowledge System Committee and the Cultural Sub-committee in successfully conducting the event are duly acknowledged.
