The purpose and methods behind the construction of obelisks in ancient Egypt remain shrouded in mystery. Crafting these structures from granite, a stone with a formidable hardness of 6.5 on the Mohs scale (with diamond ranking at a perfect 10), posed a significant challenge. The task required a substance even more resilient to shape the granite. Regrettably, the metals accessible during that era, including gold, copper, and bronze, were too pliable for this purpose, while other metals were intricate to wield as tools. For instance, iron, with a melting point of 1,538 degrees Celsius, wouldn't become viable for smelting until as late as 600 BC, a milestone far beyond the era of the obelisks' construction. This enigma thus underscores the remarkable skills and resourcefulness of the ancient Egyptians in achieving such intricate feats with the materials and technologies at their disposal. The Erechtheion, an ancient Greek temple, was built on the acropolis of Athens during the Golden Age of the city, between 421 and 406 BCE. Its primary purpose was to serve as a sanctuary for the ancient wooden cult statue of Athena, while also serving as a grand tribute to the greatness of Athens during its peak of power and influence. Despite enduring a tumultuous history of misuse and neglect, the Erechtheion has persisted as a prominent and remarkable structure from antiquity. Its elevated location above the city, coupled with the striking porch featuring six Caryatids, contributes to its enduring distinction and allure. (Source: https://ancientexplorers.com)
