In recent times, a troubling trend has emerged in the way certain members of our community choose to celebrate Eid Milad-un-Nabi, the birth anniversary of our beloved Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). As the verse poignantly reminds us:
"Neither the love for Muhammad (PBUH) nor the essence of worship,
The heedless consider swaying to music as worship..."
This reflection is not just a poetic lament but a profound critique of how we may have lost sight of the true purpose of our worship and devotion.
Eid Milad-un-Nabi is meant to be a day of deep reverence, reflection, and gratitude for the blessings bestowed upon us through the life and teachings of the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). His life is a beacon of light, guiding us toward humility, selflessness, and complete submission to the will of Allah. Yet, for many, the occasion has morphed into something disturbingly differentтАФa spectacle marked by loud music, DJ performances, and celebrations that bear little resemblance to the spiritual essence of the day.
A Distortion of True Worship
The disturbing reality is that instead of remembering the Prophet (PBUH) through acts of charity, communal prayers, or learning from his teachings, some have begun to indulge in activities that reflect more of the material world than the spiritual one. The trend of playing loud music, dancing to the tune of DJs, and hosting lavish processions overshadow the simplicity and depth of the message of Islam. How have we allowed ourselves to stray so far from the teachings that emphasize modesty, restraint, and the remembrance of Allah?
Such practices, while perhaps intended as expressions of joy, stand in stark contrast to the conduct and lifestyle of the Prophet (PBUH), who lived with utmost humility. To engage in these frivolous displays of jubilation on an occasion as sacred as Eid Milad-un-Nabi not only dishonors the sanctity of the day but also distances us from the core values of our faith.
The Impact of Misguided Actions
We must pause and ask ourselves: What message are we sending to our younger generation? Are we teaching them to honor the Prophet (PBUH) through acts of kindness, compassion, and worship, or are we showing them that religious festivals are mere occasions for entertainment? When we trade the spiritual for the superficial, we risk raising a generation that may understand neither the depth of faith nor the true significance of our religious obligations.
The verse, *"Allah apni laanat nahin bhejega to aur kya"* ("If Allah does not send His curse upon such actions, what else can be expected?"), rings ominously true. These misguided celebrations are not only an affront to our faith but also a call for introspection. When we deviate from the path of true worship and indulge in acts that distance us from AllahтАЩs grace, how can we expect His blessings?
Returning to the Essence of Worship
It is essential that we, as a community, reclaim the true meaning of Eid Milad-un-Nabi. Let us honor the Prophet (PBUH) by following his SunnahтАФthrough prayer, remembrance of Allah, charity, and acts of kindness toward others. True love for the Prophet (PBUH) is not expressed through extravagance but through embodying the values he stood for: compassion, humility, and unwavering faith in Allah.
The Prophet (PBUH) dedicated his life to spreading the message of peace, justice, and mercy. To truly celebrate his birth, we must commit ourselves to living by those principles. Let us gather in mosques, spend time in quiet reflection, and learn from the life of the Prophet (PBUH). Let us be a community that upholds the values of Islam, not just in words, but in actions.
A Call for Change
As we look ahead, it is crucial for our community leaders, scholars, and elders to guide us back to the correct path. We must instill in our children and ourselves the importance of Eid Milad-un-Nabi as a day of worship, reflection, and education, not one of noise and indulgence. Let our celebrations be rooted in spirituality, not in worldly distractions.
In conclusion, the love for Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) should reflect in our everyday lives, in our prayers, and in our actions toward others. Let us be mindful of how we honor his legacy. True worship is in the heart, in the remembrance of Allah, and in following the ProphetтАЩs (PBUH) footstepsтАФnot in superficial displays of celebration.
May Allah guide us all to the straight path, protect us from misguidance, and bless us with the strength to live by the teachings of Islam, in true love and devotion to our beloved Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).
