The Society for the Promotion of Indian Classical Music And Culture Amongst Youth, often known by its initials (SPIC MACAY), is not just a non-profit organization which promotes Indian classical music, Indian classical dance, and other aspects Indian culture, it is a movement with chapters in over 300 towns and cities all over the world. SPIC MACAY was established by Dr. Kiran Seth in 1977 at IIT
Delhi out of a conviction that an appreciation of the richness, variety and aesthetics of culture is a cornerstone of education. Unfortunately, this crucial input is lacking in our schools, colleges and universities. An excellent way of making students aware of the diverse, yet integrated strands of our culture is by systematically introducing them to various forms of Indian Classical Music and Dance schools, colleges and universities. SPIC MACAY does precisely this where students take initiative to host the concert, organize publicity and hospitality, and take care of the artistes. Every year it organizes hundreds of free concerts and lecture-demonstrations in schools, colleges and universities covering Indian Classical Music, Classical Dance, Folk art forms, etc.
