The Supreme Court on Monday upheld the validity of the 103 constitutional amendment providing 10 per cent reservation to people belonging to economically weaker sections (EWS) in admissions and government jobs with 3:2 split verdict.
The majority view, as enunciated by one of the five judges of the Constitution Bench, described reservation as “an instrument not only for inclusion of socially and educationally backward classes to the mainstream of society, but also for the inclusion of any class or section so disadvantaged”
The majority bench comprised justices Dinesh Maheshwari, Bela Trivedi and JB Pardiwala, who upheld the EWS amendment. CJI Lalit and Justice Ravindra Bhat passed a dissenting judgment.

Rashtrapati Bhavan on Sunday illuminated red lights in honour of international dyslexia awareness month – celebrated in October. The colour red is often associated with dyslexia to advocate awareness about the learning disability.
While the entire month was celebrated as dyslexia awareness month, the north block and south block of Rashtrapati Bhavan, as well as India Gate and the Indian Parliament in Delhi were lit up in red to mark the occasion.

UNESCO MGIEP and its partner ChangeInkk Foundation had sought for the government's support in the 'Go Red' campaign post in which many important buildings and monuments throughout Delhi displayed red lighting on Sunday evening.

The ‘Go Red’ campaign aims at removing the stigma associated with dyslexia, eradicating discrimination, and increasing public knowledge around the subject as well as the many strengths of dyslexic thinking.

Dyslexia is a common learning disability that affects a person's reading, writing and spelling. October is celebrated as the international month of dyslexia awareness.

India has climbed to the 40th rank in the Global Innovation Index of the World Intellectual Property Organization. This is a huge leap of 41 places in 7 years. India has leapfrogged to 40th position on the Global Innovation Index (GII) 2022 from the 81st spot in 2015.
The World Intellectual Property Organization released the Global Innovation Index 2022 in which Switzerland has emerged as the world’s most innovative economy for the 12th consecutive year. Switzerland remains the world’s leader in innovation for the 12th consecutive year. It leads globally in innovation outputs, and specifically in patents by origin, software spending, high-tech manufacturing, production, and export complexity. The second position was secured by the US followed by Sweden, the UK, and the Netherlands.

National Unity Day or Rashtriya Ekta Diwas is celebrated on October 31, every year since 2014 to mark the birth anniversary of the Iron Man of India, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel. This year marks the 147th birth anniversary of freedom fighter Vallabhbhai Patel. Sardar Vallabhbhai merged 565 princely states to make India one nation. Prime Minister Narendra Modi's 'One Nation, One Uniform' suggestion is in line with his broader attempt to introduce a uniform set of policies across the country.Currently, the British-era Khaki is worn by police across the country, but its colour, fabric and patterns change with every state and union territory.
Speaking on the second day of the ‘Chintan Shivir of home ministers’ at Surajkund in Haryana, the PM said that having a uniformed attire for police officers across India will not only ensure quality products due to the scale at which it’ll be produced, but also give a common identity to law enforcement as citizens will recognise police personnel anywhere in the country.
Prime Minister Modi’s suggestion “One Nation, One Uniform” is in line with his broader attempt to introduce a uniform set of policies across the country. In August, the Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilisers announced that it had implemented the “One Nation One Fertiliser” scheme. The Government of India in August 2019 had introduced the “One Nation One Ration Card” scheme.
The Indian Constitution puts police forces under the jurisdiction of state governments, and each of the 28 states have their own police force. Both ‘public order’ and the ‘police’ are placed in List II (State List) of the Seventh Schedule of the Constitution, which deals with the division of powers between the Union and States.

The south Indian beauty-Hyderabad beat cities like Paris, Mexico City, Montreal, Fortaleza, and Bogota to be adjudged the grand winner. It not only won the category award but the overall ‘World Green City 2022’ award i.e. the best across all six categories.
The city won in the category 'Living Green for Economic Recovery and Inclusive Growth' at the International Association of Horticulture Producers (AIPH) 2022 World Green Cities Awards which was organized in Jeju, South Korea on Friday, October 14.
Hyderabad also became the only Indian city to win laurels on the International platform.
The International Association of Horticultural Producers (AIPH / IAHP) is an international organization dedicated to promoting horticultural producers and holding international garden/flora festivals or expositions.

The Indian Space Research Organisation’s (ISRO) heaviest rocket Launch Vehicle Mark 3 (LVM3 or GSLV Mark 3) which took off from the second launch pad (SLP) of the Satish Dhawan Space Centre SHAR, Sriharikota at 12.07 a.m. (IST) has successfully orbited 36 satellites of U.K.-based OneWeb.

This is OneWeb’s 14th launch, bringing the constellation to 462 satellites. This launch represents more than 70% of its planned 648 Low Earth Orbit (LEO) satellite fleet that will deliver high-speed, low-latency connectivity worldwide.

The 43.5 metre LVM3 weighing around 644 tonne carried 36 satellites weighing 5,796 kg or about 5.7 tonne. With this launch, LVM3 has made its entry into the global commercial launch service market.
