Raghav Chadha Exposes Telecom Rules



In Parliament, Raghav Chadha raised a key issue affecting millions of mobile users in India — the expiry of unused mobile data under daily data plans.

Currently, telecom recharge plans offer fixed daily data limits such as 1.5GB, 2GB, or 3GB, which reset every 24 hours. Any unused data is forfeited at the end of the day, even though consumers have already paid for it. As highlighted by Raghav Chadha, this creates a system where users must either consume data unnecessarily or lose it entirely.

Through his Parliament intervention, Raghav Chadha questioned why unused data should expire without any rollover or compensation, calling for more consumer-friendly telecom policies.

He proposed three key reforms:

Incoming Calls Blocked After Recharge Ends? Raghav Chadha Question Telecom Companies |

Raghav Chadha raised the issue of prepaid mobile recharge policies and telecom practices affecting millions of users across India.

In Parliament, he highlighted two major concerns faced by prepaid mobile customers.

First, when a prepaid recharge expires, telecom operators stop incoming calls as well as outgoing calls. While stopping outgoing calls may be understandable, blocking incoming calls creates serious problems. People cannot receive important communication, including OTP messages, banking alerts, and emergency calls, leaving them effectively disconnected.

Second, the widely used 28-day recharge plan raises concerns about fairness and transparency. A calendar year has 12 months, yet prepaid users are required to recharge 13 times in a year because each plan lasts only 28 days. This effectively forces customers to make an additional recharge annually.
