No Gadgets, No Advance Topic: Modern Schoolโs Sardar Mohan Singh Inter-School Debate Creates Many Winners
Modern Senior Secondary School, Patiala, hosted the 4th Sardar Mohan Singh Inter-School Debate today, bringing together ten leading schools of Patiala for a fiercely contested exchange of ideas, knowledge and perspectives.
In a departure from the conventional debate format, participants were given the topic, โSociety kills passion by forcing students into 'safe' careersโ, only one hour before the contest. With no electronic gadgets permitted, the young debaters had to rely entirely on their knowledge and analytical abilities to prepare their arguments, think under pressure and respond spontaneously to their opponents.
The distinguished three-member jury comprised Ms Geeta Datta, senior television journalist and producer; Ms Jasinder Sekhon, environmental and citizensโ rights activist; and Mr. Angad Singh, the current North India schools debating champion.
Instituted in memory of Sardar Mohan Singh, the visionary founder of Modern Senior Secondary School, Patiala, the annual debate has steadily emerged as Patialaโs leading school debating platform. By placing emphasis on independent thinking, spontaneity, knowledge and the ability to articulate ideas under pressure, the competition seeks to go beyond conventional debating and encourage students to become confident and thoughtful communicators.
