Five Day Series with Five Tips for cracking SSB Interview (by Colonel Walia) -
Tip 5 - Have Faith in Your Own Brain.
There are the activities which bring out the versatility, fertility and analytical power your brain e.g. while making a plan for the group task or Group Planning Exercise (GPE), never try to copy solutions from others or try to repeat what others have done. Always use your own brain.
Whenever a situation or problem is given to you, analyse it from all aspects, grasp all the factors including restrictions and resources available, think of all the possible options, weigh pros & cons of each option and then decide your best possible option under the circumstances, formulate the plan and get it executed. Whether it is GPE or a Group Task, always scratch your own brain and come out with your ownsolution. Only then you will get the credit.

Tip 4 - Group Concern.
Group concern should always be your main concern. Your own aim should come later. If you keep the group aim as top priority, your own aim automatically gets embedded in that. You do not have to show it. If you are quite sincere and always look forward for the betterment of the group, you automatically come in limelight and get due credit. Never let down your group members. Never highlight their mistakes in the group and thereby to the GTO (Group Testing Officer). Never show off your knowledge to put other members of the group in an embarrassing position. In case a group member needs help, do it quietly. Do not make it too obvious for everyone to notice.

Tip 3 - Be Sincere but Not Serious.
You will be put through a large number of tests. Majority of tests would look very simple and at times child’s play. Do not take them casually. Every task given to you has been structured to bring out certain qualities otherwise latent in you. Hence any task given , you must carry it out with your full sincerity and enthusiasm. At the same time don not look too serious in life as if you are mentally under tremendous pressure due to these tests and tasks.
Maintain the subtle difference between ‘Being Carefree’ and ‘Being Careless’. While doing a task, be totally sincere and after the task, just forget about it and enjoy. Never keep thinking about your performance in the previous tests. Be fully active and engross in the present task with full Josh even if you have not been able to perform as good in the earlier tasks. Do not lose heart if you have not been able to perform well in a particular task. You will get enough number of chances to show your capability.

Tip 2 - Always be a Team Player.
We can never fight a war with individuals. We always win a war working with cohesive teams in which every member is equally important and is expected to contribute ‘His Best’ towards the betterment of the group. Your individual excellence is useful only if the group you are working with accepts you as a leader.
You may draw an excellent plan which is superb but it is of no value if the group does not even listen to you. Because if the group does not listen to you, they will never accept your plan and the result is that your superb plan will remain on paper and will never get executed. So Gentlemen, it is of utmost importance that you become a seamless part of your group, a member who is always sought after for any guidance or help.

Five Day Series with Five Tips for cracking SSB Interview (by Colonel Walia) -
Tip 1 - Be Yourself.
Do not try to show off. Never pose yourself as a personality which actually you are not. If you try to manipulate your personality, then more likelihood is that you will end up exposing yourself as a
confused personality.
There are large numbers of tests which bring out same or similar qualities e.g. in Word Association Test (WAT), there may be similar words leading to similar type of response from one personality. But if you manipulate and try to write an ideal sentence which will look good, then that response is not yours. At different stages, different responses would emerge which is not expected from ‘One Personality’. This would straightway lead the psychologist to deduce that you are a manipulator and hiding your true qualities.
So Gentlemen, always be yourself and write your actual response. Do not worry whether your response looks good or bad.
This I am saying because you as a candidate, are not in a position to judge whether your response is good or bad.

Five Day Series with Five Blunders To Avoid While Preparing for SSB Interview (by Colonel Walia) -
Blunder 5 - Manipulating Personality.
We are all humans. Generally we have a tendency to have double standards. Instead of accepting our mistake and correcting it, we blame our failures on others. Most of the times we project ourselves as such a personality which looks too good to be true. We tend to project ourselves as an ideal person having all the positive qualities with nothing negative. This is something impossible. By doing so, we put a blanket in front of us and do not allow SSB officers to assess you.
Every human being has a combination of positives and negatives. So gentlemen, do not be afraid of projecting your true personality. Do not try to manipulate your true personality.

Five Day Series with Five Blunders To Avoid While Preparing for SSB Interview (by Colonel Walia) -
Blunder 4 - Using Bookish Language.
This is basically applicable in Lecturettes and Group discussions. In Lecturettes, you are required to choose one topic out of the four printed on the card. You are given three minutes to prepare a small lecture and then you deliver that lecture to your group for three minutes.
A large number of books are available in the market covering variety of topics. Candidates generally cram these topics verbatim. You feel thrilled if you get one of the already prepared topics and you faithfully reproduce the bookish language along with all the facts & figures and have a feel of satisfaction that your lecturette has gone excellent.
However that may not be true. At SSB, we are not looking at how many topics you have prepared and how many facts & figures you have crammed. What we are looking at is, given an impromptu topic which you have not prepared, can you think logically, grasp the gist of it and express yourself to the group in an impressive manner.
Other considerations would be that do you have views of your own on that topic. Could you analyse the topic in all perspectives ? Could you suggest a practical solution to the problem projected in the Lecturette or Group Discussion ? Were you able to arrange your views in a systematical & logical manner and more so could you communicate it to your group ?

Five Day Series with Five Blunders To Avoid While Preparing for SSB Interview (by Colonel Walia) -
Blunder 3 - Obvious Selfishness.
With a view to show yourself in limelight and to get noticed by the GTO, candidates tend to obviously display dangerous quality of selfishness. At times you even let down other candidates in your group just to show your knowledge. This is against the backbone of defence. You have to be a Team Player.
In defence we always work in a team. Expectation from you is that you must be an effective and wanted member of the group. It should never happen that group considers you as an outsider and you are not able to gel with the group. Your individual performance, capability and knowledge may be superb but it is of zero value if you are not a team player & the group does not listen to you.
The group must consider you as an asset upon which they can fall back for help, guidance or solution. They should never think of you as a threat. So gentlemen, be always extra cautious that you are always counted as a homogeneous member. Never ever let down any member of the group. The group goal should always take priority over your individual goal.
