Punjabi University Department of English Alumni Association

The Annual Sood Memorial Symposium 2025 that the Department of English organised today was not just an academic gathering but also a homecoming for two distinguished alumnae of the Department of English: Dr Deepika Dhir and Ms Monica Jaura. Both former students, now accomplished in their respective fields, returned to the department as guests of honour. Their coming filled the hall with nostalgia. Dr Deepika Dhir, a proud alumna from 1984, took a walk down memory lane as she fondly remembered her teachers and shared a series of lovely anecdotes from her university days. Her reminiscences painted a vivid picture of the timeless bond between students and their mentors. Ms Monica Jaura, who studied in the Department in the 2004, reflected on the role of teachers in shaping students' lives. She emphasised how teachers not only impart knowledge but also help students evolve. Prof Gurmukh Singh, Dean, Alumni Relations, shared the initiatives taken by the Alumni Association to reconnect alumni with the department and to ensure that they feel at home once again in Punjabi University whenever they happen to visit here. The event became more than just a celebration, it was a reunion of memories, gratitude and inspiration.
