Lourde Mata E.M.H.S.S Kovilthottam,Chavara,Kollam Lourde Mata English Medium Higher Secondary School, Kovilthottam, Chavara. Our school is situated in the village of Kovilthottam.

Lourde Mata EMHSS is established in the years 1969-1974 with the auspices of then Diocese of kollam Bishop. Kovilthottam village is unique in many ways. It is a narrow strip of land, with the Arabian Sea on one side (west) and a national water way, or canal on the other (east).The canal itself ran north to south and was the main water way connecting the trading towns of Kollam with Alleppey, Kott

ayam and Cochin. The soil on this strip of land is like Salt & Pepper with sparkling bits of titanium and elements like thorium,zirconium etc. We have many fond memories of our school like, our own school bus 'PATTA VANDI', 'Gopalakrishnan Bus', 'MKK Travels', Cruising tourists from around the world( through IWA canal infront of our school), loving and caring Teachers, School Anniversaries, and of course…our playground, Sister's convent and Convent Church.......

ഇത് കോവിൽത്തോട്ടം എന്ന കൊച്ചു ഗ്രാമം, ആലപ്പാട് നിന്നും ഏകദേശം 20 KMതെക്കായി സ്ഥിതി ചെയുന്നു.ചവറ ശങ്കരമംഗലത്തു നിന്നും പടിഞ്ഞാറോട്ടു ഒരു km ദൂരം പോയാൽ കോവിൽത്തോട്ടമായി. കരിമണൽ/ധാതു മണൽ ഏറ്റവും കൂടുതൽ സമ്പുഷ്ടമായി ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നത് ഇവിടെയാണ്. കോവിൽത്തോട്ടവും ഒരു മത്സ്യത്തൊഴിലാളി ഗ്രാമം ആയിരുന്നു. എന്നാൽ 2005 -2010 കാലഘട്ടത്തിൽ ഈ ഗ്രാമത്തിലെ ജനങ്ങൾക്ക് കെഎംഎംൽ എന്ന പൊതുമേഖലാ സ്ഥാപനം 3 വർഷത്തിനുള്ളിൽ പുനരധിവാസം വാഗ്ദാനം ചെയ്തു ജനങ്ങളിൽ നിന്നും അവരുടെ സ്ഥലം തുച്ഛമായ വില നൽകി അക്വയർ ചെയ്തു ചെയ്തു, തുടർന്ന് ഖനനം നടത്തി, ഇന്ന് വരേക്കും വാഗ്ദാനം ചെയ്ത പുനരധിവാസം ഒരു കുടുംബത്തിന് പോലും നൽകുകയോ, ഖനനം ചെയ്ത സ്ഥലം റീഫിൽ ചെയ്തു പഴയ പടി ആക്കുകയോ ചെയ്തിട്ടില്ല.
ഇന്ന് ഇവിടെ ഈ കാണുന്ന പള്ളിയും സെമിത്തേരിയും , ഖനനം ചെയ്തു മണ്ണ് എടുത്ത അഗാധ ഗർത്തങ്ങളും പിന്നെ കുറെ മൺകൂനകളും അല്ലാതെ വേറൊന്നുമില്ല. ഗുരുതരമായ പ്രത്യാഘാതങ്ങൾ ഉണ്ടാക്കിയേക്കാവുന്ന പാരിസ്ഥിതിക പ്രശ്നമാണ് ഇന്ന് ഇവിടെ നിലനിൽക്കുന്നത് . ആലപ്പാടിന്റെ പ്രശ്നങ്ങളോടൊപ്പം ഈ കൊച്ചു ഗ്രാമത്തിന്റെയും കേരളതീരത്തിന്റെ മൊത്തം പാരിസ്ഥിതിക പ്രശ്നമായും ചേർത്ത് വായിക്കണമെന്ന് അപേക്ഷിക്കുന്നു.
