Goa University celebrated the 80th Independence Day with great patriotism and pride across the campus.

The ceremony commenced with the hoisting of the National Flag and address by Prof. (HAG) Harilal B. Menon, Hon’ble Vice Chancellor of Goa University, in the presence of Prof. Sunder N. Dhuri, Registrar of Goa University, followed by patriotic songs and vibrant cultural performances by students. The occasion served as a powerful reminder of our nation's rich legacy and the sacrifices of our freedom fighters. Goa University organised the Nasha Mukt Bharat pledge ceremony to promote a healthy, drug-free campus, which was administered by Prof. (HAG) Harilal B. Menon, Hon’ble Vice Chancellor of Goa University.

Students, faculty and staff came together to take the pledge, committing to raise awareness against substance abuse and build a stronger community. The initiative highlighted the vital role of youth in driving social change and fostering a safe, positive learning environment.

Goa University marked a significant milestone in advancing technology-led support for Goa’s fishing communities with the official launch of Matsya Sandhana Kshetram (मत्स्य सन्धान क्षेत्रम्), a Potential Fishing Zone Guidance App developed by the University.

The occasion also witnessed the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Goa University and the Directorate of Fisheries, strengthening institutional collaboration toward empowering local fishing communities through research, technology, and scientific insights.

The programme was inaugurated by Dr. Pramod Sawant, Hon’ble Chief Minister of Goa, in the distinguished presence of Shri Nilkanth Halarnkar, Hon’ble Minister for Fisheries, Prof. (HAG) Harilal B. Menon, Vice Chancellor, Goa University, Dr. Shamila Monteiro, Director of the Directorate of Fisheries, Prof. Malapati K. Goa University successfully organised a Training Session / Sensitization Program on "Mental Health, Psychological First Aid and Referral Mechanism" for its Non-Teaching Staff on 06th August 2026.

The session was conducted by Dr. Vithoba N. Mhalkar, Associate Professor (DPN), Institute of Psychiatry & Human Behaviour (IPHB). Prof. Sunder N. Dhuri, Registrar, Goa University, was the Chief Guest for the closing ceremony. The program focused on fostering mental well-being, providing effective psychological first aid and strengthening supportive referral pathways across the university community.

Dr. Amavel Pereira, Medical Officer and Shri Shashikant Morajkar, Assistant Registrar, Public Relations, jointly organized this program.
