Whom should we help? The poor who survive by begging, or those who toil day in and day out—shedding blood and sweat through an entire day of hard labor—yet still cannot provide decent meals for themselves or their children? They live in shanties and are unable to send their children to school. It is my firm belief that we should extend our help to those impoverished individuals who, despite working tirelessly, remain unable to meet their basic needs. We ought to assist those who remain poor despite being employed—not those who spend their entire day begging only to spend their evenings in intoxication. The image captured today depicts people who, amidst this scorching heat, are working as laborers on road construction sites—accompanied by their wives and their young children, who rightfully ought to be attending school. I, for my part, offered them a small gesture of assistance.
