A fantastic event with fantastic speakers. TEDxPanchgani was held on Jan 13th, with 12 speakers from around the globe, giving inspiring talks that deal with "change the only constant"

We must learn from the past so that we can change the future! Change takes place in every field, including in the financial markets. Explaining the development of the financial system, from the Barter system up to the computerized systems of the present day, Hirander Misra explained to the audience at the TedXPanchgani event, how trading systems, commodities like gold, and marketplaces, gradually changed and evolved. He explained how a marriage of business and technology has changed the concept of financial trading. Setting up an Agricultural commodity exchange was the next step - this had the effect of eliminating the middlemen and ensuring that the farmers received the benefit of their labours. Small farmers, who were often women, were digitally empowered and saw their lives change. The Social and economic impact of small schemes can create major changes in the lives of those who are impacted by them. A Waste Exchange Scheme can bring immense change to those that generate the waste, as well as those who can recycle it. The changing ethos, with its emphasis on Social media and connectivity, is being felt not only locally, but globally as well! This fusion of the old and the new has the potential to change the world. We need to embrace change so that the world does not pass us by!

Speaking at the TEDxPanchgani, themed "Change the Only Constant" Kailash Surendranath pointed out that if we resist Change we become obsolete, if we can adapt to Change we will survive, but if we create Change, we will thrive!! So, let's be proactive, let's CREATE change!! Tracing the history of films and ads in India, he showed how innovation and fresh thinking led to amazing new developments in the field. Films can also cause changes in the mind-set and help to foster National unity and peace. Even someone like the then Prime Minister, Rajiv Gandhi, recognized the power of Cinema for creating positive change in the nation, and instilling a sense of unity, and of pride in being Indian. Now, the future of films, televisions, and story-telling in general, is changing as never before, and many different forms of media are available. And, dreams and ideas that were once considered "disruptive" may in fact be the ideas of the future. So, just go ahead, dare to dream and change the world!

Change is an integral and inevitable part of everyone's life - we all constantly grow and change through all the various phases of our lives. However, as Piyush Pandey, speaking at the TEDxPanchgani event, pointed out; it is our values and character which remain constant in our lives - and which hold us together and make us unique. Using the game of cricket as an example, he described how the game has changed and evolved over the years, while still retaining its essential character. The same principles are extended to the field of advertising also - brands change and evolve. But while change is embraced, the soul still remains constant! This was vividly brought out in various entertaining and amusing ads. Piyush also reminded the audience that sometimes change may not be positive - while we change and grow we must always be true to our roots!

Anil Singh is the embodiment of the adage - Never Give Up!! In an inspiring TEDxPanchgani Talk, this brilliant entrepreneur recounted the tale behind the conception of the iconic Mumbai marathon. An avid sportsman himself, Anil enthralled the audience with the story of how he brought the marathon to India for the first time, in Mumbai, in 2004. Participative sports are in a whole different category - people can actually be a part of the event instead of being mere spectators. And every participant can be a winner!! Against all odds, Anil persevered until he put together all the requirements for the Marathon -- which even included shutting down Mumbai for the duration!! This marathon has ushered in a silent revolution across the length and breadth of India - in 2017 over one million people took part in marathons across the country! Over Rs. 350 crores have been raised for more than 600 NGOs, and it has all come from the hearts of the participants. This is the magic of the movement, and the power of the people!

Can you be successful while doing what you love? Kabadiwalla Connect, a for-profit recycling business, has changed the concept of waste management by recycling PET bottles and other plastic waste in a productive manner, and treating plastic waste as a commodity that can be profitably utilized. This concept fulfills Siddharth Hande's dream and helps the environment, at the same time. It also is beneficial for the unorganized sector, commonly known as "rag-pickers" who are helped to collect the waste from households and various other sources. His efforts for change in this area have been appreciated and awarded by various organizations such as the World Economic Forum and the World Bank. Speaking at the TEDxPanchgani, Siddharth kept the audience enthralled and entertained with the story of his changing Life journey, and the eclectic interests that he has pursued. From Pro Tennis player, to Musician, to Biologist, to Social Activist - Sid's career path has never been a straight one! Yet, he has been able to draw inspiration from everything in his past and put it to good use while achieving the ultimate change and finding his dream.

Stefan Hermann claimed the audience's undivided attention as he bravely shared heart-breakingly honest and intimate details from his past, while speaking at the TEDxPanchgani. This German born author, professor and world traveler firmly believes that the entire Education system should be revamped, as it is completely irrelevant to life skills and employment in the future. In fact, our future depends on broadening our vision of Education. Stefan boldly proposed that each person can be a catalyst for change, via meaningful interaction with the younger generation. In India, almost ten thousand young people took their own lives in the last year. That means something is terribly wrong with the educational system, and also the support system. Stress, bullying, depression and abuse can severely impact youngsters. Mentoring groups can make a tremendous difference to the lives of those who have suffered emotional, physical or sexual trauma. A revolutionary new approach towards mentoring; involving listening, acceptance and "modelling" behavior, can create a safe space for troubled teens. Stefan urged everyone to help in this, for example by creating "truth-telling circles" where youngsters can open up, share their deepest feelings and channel their anger. India has immense potential for change - everyone can come together to make a drastic change!

The story of metal casting in India started 5000 years ago - and despite many changes, some elements have remained constant. This was the story shared by Mandakini Mathur with the attendees of the TEDxPanchgani. Even though it seems that traditions should always remain constant, yet traditions are also living things, and so they too evolve! Working with Adivasi tribals, Mandakini realized that sustaining Art also required sustaining and nurturing the Artist. Evolving tradition, while retaining the essential spirit of the art form, leads to encouragement and success for both the art form and the artist. Describing different methods and techniques, Mandakini kept the audience enthralled and fascinated with the beautiful artifacts created by the Art Village. Our culture, our community, our country - all are rooted in the constant and yet vibrant with change!

The TEDxPanchgani event closed on a thrilling note with a presentation by Mangesh Desai, Illusionist and Mentalist. He wowed the audience with his amazing illusions and had them awed and impressed by the ease with which he read their minds. Calling different volunteers up on the stage, he treated the audience to an impressive performance of mind-reading - for example, being able to accurately state exactly where various objects had been hidden while he was blind-folded. He also explained how the sub-conscious plays a vital role in helping one to interpret situations. The human mind is so powerful that false memories can also influence us, causing us to "remember" things that never happened! Mangesh showed the audience how to harness the power of the mind, along with many other factors such as experience, emotions, habits and information, for decision making. Ending with another fascinating demonstration of his mental powers, Mangesh provided a fantastic finale to a fabulous TedX event.

Change is possible at any time - that was the message of Dr. Aditi Govitrikar! This versatile and talented lady led the Audience at TEDxPanchgani, through the amazing journey of her life, beginning with the problems she faced while starting out as a medical student, and going on to the radical changes that transformed her from medical student to Supermodel and then to practicing psychologist. She spoke about a long life being a catalyst to career change, and emphasized that no-one needs to be stuck forever in a boring and unsatisfying career, even if it is financially rewarding. As life-span increases, so does the opportunity for career change. With the biggest risks come the biggest rewards - just step out of your comfort zone and go for it!! All you need to do is understand yourself, accept yourself, and seek help if required. Embrace yourself - let the caterpillar change into a brilliant, beautiful butterfly!!

There is a small child in every one of us, who loves to laugh and play! This was the message offered at the TEDxPanchgani, by Dr. Sandeep Kate. This versatile and many-faceted man enthralled the audience with tales of his fascination with comics, of which he has a vast collection, and also with the games of his boyhood days, especially spinning tops. Most of these games are on the path to being forgotten, nowadays. To the surprise and delight of the audience, he informed them that under every chair was hidden a small Gift bag - which proved to contain tops and marbles! Dr. Kate reminded everyone that these youthful toys and games are not just "child's play" but can teach important life skills such as team-building, leadership skills, and sportsmanship. Adults should ensure that their children have the opportunity to play outdoors and participate in such games, instead of being constantly glued to the TV or tablet screen! In fact, during the run-up to the Satara Hill half-marathon, such local games, called "Soil games" were organized. The organizers were amazed at the enthusiastic response they received, from adults as well as children, so much so that now a special Soil Games park has been set up. Positive change can be ensured by encouraging and promoting such games, and looking towards the past as well as the future!
