Latest post NURDLE HUNTING is out on Substack

Careers can start in the most innocuous ways. My son's foray into sustainability started with a cleanup in a local park over a decade ago.

And A Greener Future

For organizing the cleanup.
And for the educational outreach. I learned about the role of nurdles in microplastics.

We lost our beautiful mother recently. She is called blessed by her children and hundreds of people around the world who were able to join us as we celebrated her life.

"Hey Ma'am, can I your autobiography?" !! Wow.
Have I made it to the big leagues?

What a great experience at Goa Arts and Literature Festival

Meeting authors like
Privileged to speak on a panel at this event that was mostly Goan, but also so inclusive of other cultures in India.

To those who open their homes and hearts to others on special occasions and all through the year - Thank you.
This week's essay honours Mrs. Keisman and the memory of my first Thanksgiving.

As they say "Like, subscribe and share" if these sentiments appeal to you.

Generosity and abundance at Thanksgiving

“For me, it is crucial to follow my heart. Doing that is far more important than gold medals. That keeps me motivated and it keeps me enjoying this beautiful sport.”

Sifan Hassan said this as she announced her bid to win a gold medal 🏅in the 1500m, 5000m and 10000m at the Tokyo Olympics. Just to be clear, 1500m is one mile, and 10000m is six miles!

Knowing she had to run the 5000m later in the same day, Sifan had planned to do just enough to qualify for the 1500m. But all that was suddenly in jeopardy. A mere 350m from the finish line a runner went down and she tripped over her. All looked lost.

Out of nowhere, she provided us with one of the most memorable moments of this Olympics. She picked herself up, and took off!

In that moment she tilted the future in her favour.

Her first place finish secured her the right to compete. And secured her a place in our hearts for years.

Her longterm approach to her sport - investing in challenges that keep her wanting to run - are a significant part of the attraction.

Who has inspired you in these Olympics?

What is the one image that will define the Tokyo Olympics for you?

"This is beyond sport. This is the message we send to the next generation."
As Olympians, Barshim and Tamberi are both programmed to go for the medals.
As humans they had each come back from career-threatening ankle injuries and fought their way back to stand at the top of the world stage.
Which one would hold the gold? 🏅

"Can we have two gold?"
And with that question Barshim turned what was considered big "I" Impossible into possible.
It was within the rules of their sport. And they knew it.

They also knew that a jump-off could go either way for either of them. They knew the long hard fight if physical and mental recovery that had brought each to this moment.
And they knew their friendship would last through many more medal ceremonies.
They decided not to choose between.
They chose BOTH.

Creative thinking.
They pushed at the boundaries of the box. But they knew what those boundaries were. To think "outside" the box you have to first know what your box looks and feels like.

Talk about Tilting the Future in your favour!
"Doesn't ask never gets" I tell my kids.

In asking for they wanted they made it more probable. They turned Impossible into I'm possible.

Maybe now is the moment in our humanity to stretch at the edges of our box.
Maybe now is the time we all look at the conventions and ask if it still has to be this way?
Or is there a way for us to have both.
Is there a win-win solution?

As we face climate crisis and the challenges coming as the Future of Work unrolls, maybe the moment has come to ask:

"Can we have both?"

Let's play the long game.

Been busy putting down roots and spreading colour!

Planting is my way to commit to the season of summer - laying bets that we will have a good balance of great weather.

**Clear skies** at the right time of day (and the weekends) so that we humans can get enough Vit D to see us through next winter. The colourful reds and pinks and soothing purple and blue flowers help set the mood for that.

**Enough company of friends** that you are safely able to remember what community feels like again (once our restrictions are lifted and we are vaccinated).

**Enough sun** to get us a yield of hot chilies🌶, tomatoes🍅, eggplant🍆 and cucumbers🥒. We will see if we are willing to plant zucchini - and protect it from our pesky resident family of rabbits 🐇 🐇 .. or just give up and set up a banquet for them!

**Enough rain** to replenish the water 💧 table, cool the air and grow luscious vegetables.

Hope you are enjoying your summer.
I wish you

Stay healthy.
From there all else becomes possible.
