Ganesh Chaturthi (ISO: Gaṇeśa Chaturthī), also known as Vinayaka Chaturthi (Vināyaka Chaturthī), is a Hindu festival celebrating the arrival of Ganesh to earth from Kailash Parvat with his mother Goddess Parvati/Gauri. The festival is marked with the installation of Ganesh clay idols privately in homes, or publicly on elaborate pandals (temporary stages)
Observations include chanting of Vedic hymns and Hindu texts such as, prayers and brata (fasting)
Offerings and prasadam from the daily prayers, that are distributed from the pandal to the community, include sweets such as modaka as it is believed to be a favourite of Lord Ganesh
The festival ends on the tenth day after start, when the idol is carried in a public procession with music and group chanting, then immersed in a nearby body of water such as a river or sea. In Mumbai alone, around 150,000 statues are immersed annually.
Thereafter the clay idol dissolves and Ganesh is believed to return to Mount Kailash to Parvati and Shiva
The festival celebrates Lord Ganesh as the God of New Beginnings and the Remover of Obstacles as well as the god of wisdom and intelligence and is observed throughout India, especially in the states such as Maharashtra, Goa, Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh, Kerala, Telangana, Odisha, West Bengal, Gujarat and Chhattisgarh,and is usually celebrated privately at home in Tamil Nadu.
Ganesh Chaturthi is also observed in Nepal and by the Hindu diaspora elsewhere such as in Australia, New Zealand, Canada, Singapore, Malaysia, Trinidad and Tobago, Guyana, Suriname, other parts of the Caribbean, Fiji, Mauritius, South Africa United States, and Europe. In the Gregorian calendar Ganesh Chaturthi falls between 22 August and 20 September every year @ Dhirajlal Gandhi College of Technology

Black Ribbon Day, officially known in the European Union as the European Day of Remembrance for Victims of Stalinism and Na**sm, is an international day of remembrance for victims of totalitarian regimes, specifically Stalinist, communist, N**i and fascist regimes
It is observed on 23 August and symbolizes the rejection of "extremism, intolerance and oppression"
It is one of the official remembrance days of the European Union
Under the name Black Ribbon Day it is also an official remembrance day of Canada and the United States, among other countries @ Dhirajlal Gandhi College of Technology

The night of 22 to 23 August 1791, in Santo Domingo (today Haiti and the Dominican Republic) saw the beginning of the uprising that would play a crucial role in the abolition of the transatlantic slave trade
It is against this background that the International Day for the Remembrance of the Slave Trade and its Abolition is commemorated on 23 August each year

"This 23 August, we honour the memory of the men and women who, in Saint-Domingue in 1791, revolted and paved the way for the end of slavery and dehumanization
We honour their memory and that of all the other victims of slavery, for whom they stand. (...) To draw lessons from this history, we must lay this system bare, deconstruct the rhetorical and pseudoscientific mechanisms used to justify it; we must refuse to accept any concession or apologia which itself constitutes a compromising of principles

On August 19, 2010 World Photo Day hosted its first global online gallery. Almost 270 photographers shared their pictures and people from over 100 countries visited the website. This marked the first official, globally reaching World Photo Day.As early as 1839, a selfie was clicked by American Robert Cornelius. Cornelius set his camera up, took the image by removing the lens cap and then running into frame. On the back he wrote “The first light picture ever taken 1839”.

The first digital photograph was taken in 1957; almost 20 years before Kodak’s engineer invented the first digital camera. The photo is a digital scan of a shot initially taken on film which depicts Russell Kirsch’s son and has a resolution of 176×176
The first durable colour photograph was taken by Thomas Sutton in 1861

It was a set of three black-and-white photographs taken through red, green and blue filters
However, the photographic emulsions then in use were insensitive to the spectrum, so the result was very imperfect and the demonstration was soon forgotten @ Dhirajlal Gandhi College of Technology

Akshay Urja diwas is an awareness campaign about the developments of renewable energy in India, celebrated on August 20 every year since 2004. The Indian Ministry for New & Renewable Energy Sources initiated Akshay Urja Day (Diwas) in 2004
The first function was organised at New Delhi in 2004 and 2005 followed repeated in Nagpur in 2006 and at Hyderabad in 2007 and Panchkula, Haryana in 2008The day commemorates the birthday of former prime minister Rajiv Gandhi
The Ministry for New & Renewable Energy Sources, Govt. of India promotes innovation to adopt renewable energy sources to produce power for the electricity grid and for several standalone applications & decentralised power production
The energy such as Biogas, Solar Energy, Wind energy, hydroelectrical power are few example of Akshay Urja
It is essential to develop way to use akshay urja or renewable energy more efficiently
The main motive of Akshya urja Diwas is to make people aware that they have to think about the renewable energy (Akshya Urja) apart from tradition energy, The energy which we are getting naturally doesn't have any side effect on environment, & by using this energy we can use the traditional energy for more long time @ Dhirajlal Gandhi College of Technology

Every year on 20th August, the birth anniversary of Rajiv Gandhi is celebrated as Sadbhavana Diwas or Harmony Day😊
This year on 20th August 2020, we are going to celebrate the 76th birth anniversary of former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi✌🏻
The Indian National Congress instituted Rajiv Gandhi Sadbhavana Award in 1992, a year after his death
Every year this day is celebrated in the memory of the late Rajiv Gandhi who was the youngest Prime Minister of India at the age of 40 years✌🏻
In lieu of paying tribute to his vision for India, on this occasion contribution to society betterments are made
About Rajiv Gandhi:
Rajiv Gandhi became Prime Minister at an age of 40 years after the assassination of his mother Indra Gandhi and served from 1984-89🤝🏻
To modernize the education system he came up with a National Education Policy in 1986 & he founded Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya System where he provided free residential education to rural sections from classes 6 to 12✌🏻
He always had a dream of a developed nation for which he did many deeds including🤟🏻 the National Education Policy in 1986, reduced Licence Raj, and included Panchayati Raj
He was the one whose contribution to the development of the nation is benefiting us at present✌🏻
For remembering his dreams, his social and economic work for taking the nation towards development, Sadbhavana Diwas came into existence😊✌🏻

World Mosquito Day
Observed annually on 20 August, is a commemoration of British doctor Sir Ronald Ross's discovery in 1897 that female mosquitoes transmit malaria between humans
Ross is responsible for the annual observance, having declared shortly after his discovery that the day should be known as World Mosquito Day in the future
The London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine holds Mosquito Day celebrations every year, including events such as parties and exhibitions, a tradition dating back to as early as the 1930s @ Dhirajlal Gandhi College of Technology

World Humanitarian Day is an international day dedicated to recognize humanitarian personnel and those who have lost their lives working for humanitarian causes
It was designated by the United Nations General Assembly as part of a Swedish-sponsored GA Resolution A/63/L.49 on the Strengthening of the Coordination of Emergency Assistance of the United Nations, & set as 19 August
It marks the day on which the then Special Representative of the Secretary-General to Iraq, Sérgio Vieira de Mello and 21 of his colleagues were killed in the bombing of the UN Headquarters in Baghdad @ Dhirajlal Gandhi College of Technology

The Proclamation of Indonesian Independence (Indonesian: Proklamasi Kemerdekaan Indonesia, or simply Proklamasi) was read at 10:00 in the morning of Friday, 17 August 1945
The wording and declaration of the proclamation had to balance the interests of conflicting internal Indonesian and Japanese interests at the time
The declaration marked the start of the diplomatic and armed resistance of the Indonesian National Revolution, fighting against the forces of the Netherlands & pro-Dutch civilians, until the latter officially acknowledged Indonesia's independence in 1949
In 2005, the Netherlands declared that it had decided to accept de facto 17 August 1945 as Indonesia's independence date, which has been interpreted by Indonesian media as an official acceptance of the independence date
However, on 14 September 2011, a Dutch court ruled in the Rawagede massacre case that the Dutch state was responsible because it had the duty to defend its inhabitants, which also indicated that the area was part of the Dutch East Indies, in contradiction of the Indonesian claim of 17 August 1945 as its date of independence
In a 2013 interview the Indonesian historian Sukotjo, among others, asked the Dutch government to formally acknowledge the date of independence as 17 August 1945
Before the statevisit
of King Willem-Alexander (and Queen Máxima) of the Netherlands to Indonesia in 2020, a small group represented by Abdul Halik wrote to him with a few other relatives
As far as they were concerned, the king was not welcome as long as the Netherlands does not legally recognize the Indonesian independence date, 17 August 1945
"We ask for recognition of that date and for apologies
Those who have made mistakes should apologise to those who have suffered."
The United Nations recognizes the date of 27 December 1949
The document was signed by Sukarno (who signed his name "Soekarno" using the Van Ophuijsen orthography) & Mohammad Hatta, who were appointed president & vice-president respectively the following day

Bennington Battle Day is a state holiday unique to Vermont, commemorating the American victory over British forces at the Battle of Bennington during the American Revolutionary War in 1777✌🏻
The holiday's date is fixed, occurring on August 16 every year🤟🏻
In Bennington, there is a battle re-enactment put on by the local history foundation
The Battle of Bennington took place in New York, but is so named because the British were headed for a cache of weapons & munitions stored where the Bennington Battle Monument now stands in present-day Old Bennington, Vermont😊✌🏻
